Job summary

Freeport-McMoRan Inc. in Henderson, CO, seeks an Accounting Manager to direct daily accounting and finance operations, including budgeting, tax, general ledger, and financial reporting.

You will plan and implement short- and long-term programs, ensure GAAP compliance, supervise staff, and partner with site management on audits, vendor evaluations, and cost control. This on-site role offers a $1,450 housing allowance and a broad benefits package.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or closely related area with seven years of accounting/reporting experience.
  • Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance or closely related area with five years of accounting/reporting experience.
  • Advanced knowledge of accounting, budgeting and financial analysis.
  • Knowledge of state laws, regulations and guidelines governing mining operations including auditing, purchasing, risk management, budgeting, and accounting.
  • Ability to research and analyze complex information and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to develop and maintain awareness of occupational hazards and safety precautions and follow safety practices.
  • Ability to utilize personal computers and Microsoft Office and relational databases.
  • Skill in supervising, evaluating, training and motivating employees.
  • Skill in effective verbal and written communication.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, organize, manage, and control the daily operation of the Accounting/Finance programs and systems for the assigned site.
  • Prepare forecasts and profit and loss statements and provide historical data while compiling and producing the annual budget with analysis for variance review and cost reduction.
  • Develop, implement, and assess short- and long-term programs for the accounting department and ensure GAAP compliance.
  • Collaborate with site Management Team in budgeting and strategic planning and assist department heads with budget preparation.
  • Advise site management on audit firms and financial matters and evaluate vendors for accounting and financial services and equipment.
  • Represent the site on company-sponsored steering teams, provide leadership and direction, and evaluate the performance of subordinate accounting staff.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Where You Will Work

Our Henderson mine and mill are an hour drive apart – separated by the Continental Divide and a 15-mile conveyor system (10 miles underground). The Henderson mine is an underground molybdenum mining operation located approximately 42 miles west of Denver and 10 miles west of Empire. It has been in operation since 1976 and today consists of a large block-cave, underground mining complex feeding a concentrator with a current capacity of approximately 32,000 metric tons per day. It can produce approximately 15 million pounds of molybdenum per year. The Henderson mill is located 15 miles west of the mine, between Dillon and Kremmling.

What You Will Do

Under general direction plan, organize, manage, and control the daily operation of the Accounting/Finance programs and systems for the assigned site. As a Manager, you plan, organize and direct financial and accounting functions, including tax activities, internal auditing, budgeting, accounts payable and receivable, payroll, receipts and disbursements, general journals, fixed assets, financial statements, and cost reporting to ensure all responsibilities are completed accurately and on time. In this role, you prepare forecasts and profit and loss statements and provide historical data while compiling and producing the annual budget with analysis for variance review and cost reduction.You will develop, implement, and assess short‑and long‑term programs, goals and objectives for the accounting department and ensure that accounting practices, records, controls and decisions comply with GAAP, Company policy and State and Federal requirements. As an Accounting Manager, you collaborate as part of the site Management Team in tactical and strategic planning, support budgeting efforts, and assist department heads with budget preparation. You will advise site management on audit firms and financial matters and evaluate vendors for accounting and financial services and equipment. In this role, you represent the site on company‑sponsored steering teams, provide leadership and direction, and evaluate the performance of subordinate accounting staff. Perform other duties as required.

What You Bring To Freeport
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or closely related area AND seven (7) years of broad‑based accounting/reporting experience, including three (3) years of management/leadership experience

OR

  • Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance or closely related area AND five (5) years of broad‑based accounting/reporting experience, including three (3) years of management/leadership experience
  • Possesses and applies advanced knowledge of principles, practices and procedures in accounting, budgeting and financial analysis
  • Knowledge of and the ability to interpret State laws, regulations and guidelines governing mining operations including those relative to auditing, purchasing, risk management, budgeting, and accounting
  • Ability to research and analyze complex information and draw valid conclusions
  • Ability to develop and maintain awareness of occupational hazards and safety precautions and follow safety practices
  • Ability to utilize personal computers and associated software, including Microsoft Office and relational databases
  • Skill in supervising, evaluating, training and motivating employees
  • Skill in effective verbal and written communication
Preferred Qualifications

CPA

  • SAP and/or OneStream Systems experience
  • Mining and/or Manufacturing Industry experience
What We Offer You

The estimated annual pay range for this role is currently$112,000-$160,000. This range reflects base salary only and does not include bonus payments, benefits or retirement contributions. Actual base pay is determined by experience, qualifications, skills and other job-related factors. This role is eligible for additional incentive compensation considerations based on company and individual performance. Additionally, this position is currently eligible for annual long-term incentive consideration. Long-term incentives are contingent upon authorized approval under the terms and conditions of the Company's plan and award agreements. More details will be shared during the hiring process.
