Job summary

AHMC HealthCare in Monterey Park, CA is seeking a Nurse Manager for the Medical/Surgical unit to ensure delivery of safe, high‑quality patient care. The Manager is accountable 24/7 for staffing, clinical services, and resource management, coordinating nursing schedules by census and acuity.

The role requires a California RN license, a BSN (or higher) and progressive nursing administration experience. Strong leadership, critical thinking, interpersonal and budget skills are essential to mentor

Qualifications

• Registered Nurse licensed in the State of California with no restrictions, no actions and not on probation.
• BS degree in Nursing or other healthcare-related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Certification in specialty area preferred.
• MS degree in Healthcare-related field preferred.
• Five years of progressive nursing administration experience required; three years RN acute care experience.

Responsibilities

• Manage the delivery of nursing services in a hospital unit.
• Continuously analyze and enhance patient care and services to meet and exceed the needs and expectations of the customer.
• Monitor quality and appropriateness of patient care.
• Project and coordinate sufficient staffing to meet patient care needs.
• Utilize sound judgment and critical thinking skills in making decisions related to patient care and employee issues.
• Manage personnel resources and adjust to changing workload, staff absence and other needs within parameters of staffing targets.
• Develop, review, revise and implement policies and procedures which relate to the particular nursing specialty and integrate standards of care into unit operations/collaborative care paths that support the provision of services.
• Supervise the nursing staff in the delivery of patient care.
• Select qualified and competent employees.
• Conduct hiring, disciplinary action, scheduling, orientation, performance appraisals, educational needs and conflict resolution.
• Establish performance expectations and provide coaching to achieve positive results.
• Communicate with staff and keep staff current with appropriate information through staff meetings and announcements.
• Foster teamwork, effective communication and collaboration among all departments.
• Promote the practice of professional nursing by mentoring unit nurses in the development of patient care skills and leadership skills.
• Anticipate the purchase of replacement of equipment with input from staff and physicians.
• Implement the equipment purchase process.
• Anticipate and recommend needs for added space and needed services not provided by the organization.
• Develop annual departmental budget objectives.
• Monitor and ensure compliance with the department budget.

• Clinical expertise in medical/surgical nursing that is normally acquired through five years of experience as staff nurse and/or charge nurse. Five years of progressive nursing administration experience required. Three years recent RN acute care experience.
• High level critical thinking and analytical skills to make management decisions at unit level and make recommendations for consideration on departmental issues. Interpersonal and management skills and knowledge of employee relation laws in order to deal with complex management problems and communicate with unit personnel, physicians, administrative personnel, a variety of other hospital personnel and community persons.
• Organizational skills, effective time management and delegation strategies including the ability to rapidly prioritize and adjust work flow according to changing unit needs.
• Well-developed skills in using computers.
