Job description

Intuit is a global technology platform that helps our customers and communities overcome their most important financial challenges. We help give over 50 million consumers, small business, and self‑employed customers around the world the opportunity to prosper.

Join the QuickBooks Business Platform team as an Engineering Manager for the Sales Tax experience within QuickBooks Online. The team builds and manages automated tax calculation, reporting, and e‑filing infrastructure. They make sales tax collection, reporting, and payment simple, seamless, and reliable for small businesses across all states and jurisdictions.

You will collaborate across multiple pods and cross‑functional partners to align roadmaps, resolve dependencies, and ship customer‑driven solutions that reduce the burden of indirect tax compliance.

We love engineering leaders who build strong teams, are unafraid of complex regulatory and technical challenges, communicate clearly with stakeholders, and care as much about operational excellence as they do about the customer experience.

You'll be expected to lead as an AI‑native leader: partnering with platform teams to drive adoption of Intuit's AI/GenAI paved roads, embedding AI into how your teams build and ship, and contributing improvements back to shared platforms so the rest of the engineering organization benefits from what your teams learn.

Responsibilities
  • Lead, grow, and develop a team of software engineers responsible for indirect tax determination, calculation, and e‑filing systems, ensuring high engineering standards and strong delivery execution.

  • Bring customer‑driven software products to market that simplify and solve for current customer needs while building for the future.

  • Create a shared vision and build and maintain strong cross‑functional relationships and alignment with partners across the business (e.g., Program Management, Business Analysts, and Development Managers across the org).

  • Inspire others through action, creating a spirit of collaboration for the benefit of our customers; bring out the best ideas from the best engineers by empowering them and leading by example.

  • Champion engineering best practices — code quality, testing, and architecture reviews — while staying hands‑on enough to guide technical decisions and unblock the team.

  • Drive AI‑Native Engineering: Lead the adoption of GenAI platforms and AI‑assisted workflows within your teams to accelerate delivery, optimize code quality, and build intelligent features directly into the tax platform.

  • Scale and Direct Multi‑Pod Teams: Lead, structure, and scale a large engineering organization (across multiple pods and tech leads), fostering operational excellence, team health, and high execution standards.

Qualifications
  • 4+ years of experience as a people manager or established technical leader of software engineering teams that have delivered customer‑facing or compliance‑critical software products.

  • 8‑12+ years of hands‑on software development experience, with a track record of building reliable, scalable backend systems; experience in tax, fintech, or other regulated/compliance‑driven domains is a strong plus.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead through ambiguity, empower engineers, and cultivate a strong team culture while managing multiple concurrent workstreams and deadlines.

  • Expertise in the Software design/architecture process.

  • Hands‑on experience while managing.

  • Experience with Frontend technologies

  • Experience with Agile development and methodologies and SaaS technologies.

  • Possesses strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • Preferably - experience working with global teams.

  • Deep Fintech Domain Expertise: Proven experience building and operating high‑availability, fault‑tolerant platforms within fintech, payments, or tax compliance ecosystems where data integrity and transaction accuracy are non‑negotiable.

  • Large‑Scale Team Leadership: Demonstrated success managing large engineering organizations (including managing other managers or tech leads) through complex, multi‑system initiatives.

  • AI‑First Mindset & Execution: Practical experience leveraging AI technologies (e.g., LLM integrations, AI‑driven development tools, automated testing models) to drive engineering efficiency and product innovation.

  • Strong Technical Architecture Background: Deep technical grounding in distributed backend systems, microservices, and SaaS architecture, with the ability to participate in high‑level system design and evaluate complex technical trade‑offs.

  • BSc/MSc in Computer Science or equivalent work‑related experience.
