Job summary

Bodewell Group is seeking a full-time Manager to join our team. This role will lead communications and stakeholder engagement efforts for large-scale, complex infrastructure and land use projects. The Manager will serve as a primary client point of contact, developing and executing strategic communications that support engineering, construction, environmental, permitting, and regulatory milestones. This individual will work closely with clients and cross-functional project teams to translate complex technical information into clear, accessible communications. Responsibilities will include developing stakeholder engagement strategies, managing community and stakeholder relationships, identifying potential issues, and supporting proactive communications and response strategies throughout the project lifecycle. The ideal candidate is a strong writer, strategic thinker, and relationship builder who understands the infrastructure landscape and thrives in fast-paced, high-visibility environments.

Position

Location & Travel: This position is based in Sacramento and requires the ability to work in that location. This role is primarily remote with varying expectations of visits to satellite offices and clients. Travel is required up to 10-15% of the time. This role may also require early mornings, evenings, and weekends as needed.

Compensation

The annual base amount for this position is dependent on several factors, including the candidate’s geographic location, experience, and qualifications. The annual base amount may be adjusted based on market conditions in the location where the employee resides.

A typical annual base range for this role is: $75,000- $95,000 - (actual compensation may vary by location and will follow local regulations).

Responsibilities
  • Manage communications and stakeholder outreach for large, complex infrastructure and land use programs, serving as a primary point of contact for clients.
  • Develop strategic communications and public affairs plans to support outreach and approvals for major projects.
  • Coordinate closely with project teams to ensure project information, milestones, risks, and impacts are accurately translated into clear, consistent, and timely messaging and collateral.
  • Lead and mentor junior account staff, providing coaching, direction, and performance feedback while supporting skill development in stakeholder engagement, issue management, and energy program coordination.
  • Develop and execute stakeholder engagement strategies, including public outreach, community briefings, open houses and media events, stakeholder communications, and issue response plans, for high-visibility infrastructure projects with significant community and operational impacts.
  • Prepare and execute project-specific awareness and support campaigns to improve public sentiment for projects.
  • Track and manage program-level risks, issues, and dependencies related to stakeholder concerns, community impacts, and communications, escalating emerging issues appropriately and supporting project team decision-making.
  • Additional duties as required.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, English, Public Relations, Marketing, Journalism, Public Administration or similar preferred
  • 5+ years' experience in public relations or public outreach fields
Language Skills

Employees who are fluent in Spanish, or other languages as needed, may be expected to provide in-house translation and interpretation services as part of their role.
