Old Dominion Freight Line, Inc. is currently recruiting Management Trainees who will receive hands-on training in all wage and salaried jobs to learn to manage a shift or an operational area in a service center. Once training is completed, the trainee will fill in as a supervisor on various shifts and departments. The trainee will learn to manage a shift while emphasizing safety, quality, efficiency, service, and delivery. Responsibilities include completing assignments, being assessed through knowledge indicators, writing papers, viewing management videos, and recommending process improvements. The program also includes participation in Old Dominion Truck Driving Training to obtain a CDL license, forklift training, and management and leadership courses.

Responsibilities

  1. Complete shift manager’s training as an understudy with an experienced manager or supervisor.
  2. Complete forklift job training knowledge and exercises across all jobs within the service center.
  3. Participate in ODTDT (Old Dominion Truck Driving Training) program to obtain CDL license.
  4. Fill in as a supervisor on various shifts and departments.
  5. Complete and develop department/area knowledge indicators, and suggest process and procedure improvements.
  6. Use AS400 system to move freight, maintain records of efficiency, quality, costs, hot loads, missed loads, etc.
  7. Update payroll and employee information in Workday as needed.
  8. Write and submit monthly activity reports.
  9. Assign work according to daily schedules.
  10. Make quick, informed decisions based on volume levels and communicate schedules to employees.
  11. Inspect tools and equipment for safety and direct corrections as needed.
  12. Travel approximately 15% to other service centers to learn operations and supervise in different environments.

Qualifications

  1. Bachelor’s degree.
  2. Proficiency in computer software such as WORD and EXCEL; AS400 knowledge is helpful.
  3. Strong oral and written communication skills.
  4. Solid work history (if applicable).
  5. Professional appearance.
  6. Open to relocation upon program completion.

Compensation Range: $62,400 - $65,520. The salary range is based on the company's good faith estimate at the time of posting and may vary based on location, experience, market conditions, education, and skills.

Working Days and Shifts: To be determined, subject to change based on scheduling and business needs.
