Old Dominion Freight Line, Inc. is currently recruiting Management Trainees who will receive hands-on training in all wage and salaried jobs to learn to manage a shift or an operational area in a service center. Once training is completed, trainees will fill in as supervisors across various shifts and departments. The training emphasizes safety, quality, efficiency, service, and delivery. Trainees will also complete assignments assessed through knowledge indicators, papers, management videos, and process improvement recommendations. Additionally, trainees participate in programs such as CDL licensing, forklift training, and leadership courses.

Responsibilities

  1. Complete shift manager’s training as an understudy with an experienced manager or supervisor.
  2. Complete forklift training and production exercises across all service center jobs.
  3. Participate in the ODTDT program to obtain a CDL license.
  4. Serve as a supervisor on various shifts and departments.
  5. Complete and develop department/area knowledge indicators and process improvements.
  6. Use AS400 to move freight, maintain efficiency and quality records.
  7. Update payroll and employee info in Workday.
  8. Write and submit monthly activity reports.
  9. Assign work based on daily schedules.
  10. Make quick, informed decisions based on operational volume and communicate schedules.
  11. Inspect and ensure safe working conditions of tools and equipment.
  12. Travel approximately 15% to other service centers for training and supervision.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Proficiency in Word, Excel; AS400 knowledge helpful
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Solid work history (if applicable)
  • Professional appearance
  • Willingness to relocate after trainee program

Compensation Range: $62,400 - $65,520. Actual salary may vary based on location, experience, education, and skills.

Working Days and Shift: To be determined, subject to change based on business needs.
