Job Description

Old Dominion Freight Line, Inc. is currently recruiting Management Trainees who will receive hands-on training in all wage and salaried roles to learn to manage a shift or an operational area in a service center. The training includes managing shifts, emphasizing safety, quality, efficiency, service, and delivery. Trainees will complete various assignments, participate in management videos, and suggest process improvements. They will also participate in the Old Dominion Truck Driving Training program to obtain a CDL license, forklift training, and leadership courses.

Responsibilities

1. Complete shift manager’s training under the guidance of an experienced manager or supervisor.
2. Complete forklift training and perform related exercises within the service center.
3. Participate in the ODTDT program to obtain a CDL license.
4. Serve as a temporary supervisor across various shifts and departments.
5. Develop and monitor department knowledge indicators and implement process improvements.
6. Utilize AS400 to manage freight operations and record efficiency metrics.
7. Update payroll and employee data in Workday.
8. Prepare and submit monthly activity reports.
9. Assign tasks to employees based on daily schedules.
10. Make quick, informed decisions based on operational volume, and communicate schedules effectively.
11. Inspect and ensure the safety and proper functioning of tools and equipment.
12. Travel approximately 15% to other service centers for learning and supervision.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required.
• Proficiency in computer software such as Word and Excel; AS400 knowledge is a plus.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Solid work history (if applicable).
• Professional appearance.
• Willingness to relocate after the trainee program.

Compensation Range:

The salary range is estimated at $62,400 - $65,520, based on geographic location, experience, and other factors.

Working Days and Shift:

Shift hours and days are to be determined and may change based on business needs.
