Old Dominion Freight Line, Inc. is currently recruiting Management Trainees who will receive hands-on training in all wage and salaried jobs to learn to manage a shift or an operational area in a service center. Once hands-on training is completed in each area, the trainee will fill in as a supervisor on various shifts and departments. The trainee will learn to manage a shift while emphasizing safety, quality, efficiency, service, and delivery. The trainee will also complete assignments while being assessed through knowledge indicators, writing papers, viewing management videos, and recommending process improvements on operating procedures. Participants will engage in the Old Dominion Truck Driving Training program to obtain a CDL license, participate in forklift training, and attend management and leadership training courses as scheduled.

Responsibilities

  1. Complete shift manager’s training as an understudy with an experienced manager or supervisor.
  2. Complete forklift job training, knowledge, and production exercises on all jobs within the service center.
  3. Participate in the ODTDT (Old Dominion Truck Driving Training) program to obtain a CDL license.
  4. Fill in as a supervisor on various shifts and departments.
  5. Complete department/area knowledge indicators and develop new indicators, as well as process and procedure changes.
  6. Operate in AS400 to move freight as needed throughout the system and maintain records of efficiency, quality, cost, hot loads, missed loads, etc.
  7. Use Workday to update payroll and employee information as needed.
  8. Write and submit monthly activity reports.
  9. Assign work to employees according to the daily schedule.
  10. Make quick and informed decisions based on volume levels and communicate schedules to affected employees.
  11. Inspect working conditions of tools and equipment for safety and direct corrections as needed.
  12. Travel approximately 15% to other service centers to learn operations and supervise in different environments.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Proficiency in computer/PC software (WORD, EXCEL); AS400 background is helpful.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Solid work history (if applicable).
  • Professional appearance.
  • Willingness to relocate upon completion of the trainee program.

Compensation Range:

The salary range listed is based on the company's good faith belief at the time of posting. Actual compensation may vary based on geographic location, experience, market conditions, education, and skills.

($62,400 - $65,520)

Working Days and Shift:

Shift and hours are to be determined and may change based on scheduling and business needs. These details are guidelines at the time of posting.
