Job Description

Old Dominion Freight Line, Inc. is recruiting Management Trainees to receive hands-on training across various roles to learn to manage shifts or operational areas in a service center. The training includes managing shifts with a focus on safety, quality, efficiency, service, and delivery. Trainees will complete assignments assessed through knowledge indicators, papers, management videos, and process improvement recommendations. They will participate in the Truck Driving Training program to obtain a CDL license, forklift training, and leadership courses.

Responsibilities

1. Complete shift manager’s training as an understudy with an experienced manager or supervisor.
2. Complete forklift training and operational exercises within the service center.
3. Participate in the ODTDT (Old Dominion Truck Driving Training) program to obtain a CDL license.
4. Fill in as a supervisor across shifts and departments.
5. Develop and implement knowledge indicators and process improvements.
6. Operate within the AS400 system to move freight and maintain efficiency records.
7. Update payroll and employee information using Workday.
8. Prepare and submit monthly activity reports.
9. Assign work based on daily schedules and make quick decisions based on volume levels.
10. Ensure safety by inspecting tools and equipment, and address any issues.
11. Travel approximately 15% to other service centers for training and supervision.

Qualifications

1. Bachelor’s degree.
2. Proficiency in computer software such as Word and Excel; AS400 knowledge helpful.
3. Strong communication skills, both oral and written.
4. Solid work history (if applicable).
5. Professional appearance.
6. Willingness to relocate after the trainee program.

Compensation Range: $62,400 - $65,520, based on factors like location, experience, and skills.

Working Days and Shift: To be determined, subject to change based on business needs.
