We are seeking a thought leader who can lead a team of technical experts, collaborate with our sales team, showcase CDM Smith’s technical differentiators, and help our clients plug into the future of energy.

As the Geothermal Discipline Leader and a contributor to CDM Smith’s transformational growth, you will:

  1. Lead teams to create system designs, including master planning & studies, conceptual and basis of design technical documents, and detailed design of geothermal heating and cooling systems for sustainability/energy efficiency/renewable energy/green buildings focused projects.
  2. Design systems of moderate to high complexity as necessary to meet client requirements. Review draft designs for compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. Ensure that firm policies and practices are followed on all designs.
  3. Collaborate with sales staff to create proposals in response to current and potential client requests for proposals (RFPs). Review draft proposals for adherence to firm, industry, state, local, and federal regulations, and best practices.
  4. Meet with current and potential future clients to review their current and future design needs.
  5. Perform site assessments and studies as needed to ensure designs are aligned with industry standards and local requirements.
  6. Attend conferences, symposia, etc. to improve the visibility of the firm's products and services in collaboration with applicable sales staff.
  7. Act as the primary point of contact for external clients and related industry contacts. Collaborate with clients and government officials to clarify technical questions and provide updates to project management as necessary.
  8. Provide technical guidance and training to more junior staff. Mentor more junior staff and develop them for future growth within the discipline and firm. May supervise the work of junior engineers on project work.

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor's degree.
  2. 10 years of related experience.
  3. Domestic and/or international travel may be required. The frequency of travel is contingent on specific duties, responsibilities, and the essential functions of the position, which may vary depending on workload and project demands.
  4. Equivalent additional directly related experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. An appropriate and valid driver's license is required.
  2. Knowledge of governmental and utility incentive programs preferred.
  3. Experience developing Building Heating and Cooling Load Modeling & Life Cycle Cost Analysis to support design development and alternative analysis preferred.
  4. AEE Certified GeoExchange Designer preferred.
  5. IGSHPA Certified Geothermal Inspector preferred.
  6. Professional Engineer (PE) preferred.

Amount of Travel Required: 10%

Pay Range Minimum: $104,229

Pay Range Maximum: $182,374

Work Location Options: Fully Remote or Hybrid Work Options may be considered for successful candidate.
