Job summary

IAT Insurance Group seeks a Claims Counsel for the Management Liability Claims Unit. This role handles EPL, D&O, Fiduciary and Crime claims on a national basis with a hybrid schedule (office Mon-Wed, remote Thu-Fri).

You will manage complex claims, coordinate defense counsel, assess coverage and prepare management reports. Requires 3–7 years in management liability and a JD with active licensure; travel approx. 1 day/month.

Qualifications

• Juris Doctorate and active bar admission in relevant US jurisdiction.
• 3-7 years of management liability claim experience including EPL, D&O, Fiduciary and Crime.
• Strong coverage analysis and negotiation skills.
• Experience directing defense counsel and litigation strategy.

Responsibilities

• Handle Management Liability Claims (EPL, D&O, Fiduciary, Crime) for Private/Non-Profit clients nationwide.
• Manage defense counsel within budget, attend mediations and trials as needed.
• Verify coverage and prepare loss and exposure reports for management.
• Draft coverage letters and collaborate with underwriting and marketing teams.

IAT has an immediate need for a Claims Counsel in our Management Liability Claims Unit that can be located in any of the IAT locations. This role is a true complex claims handling role that is tasked with managing all lines of Management Liability Claims under our Management liability policies. The ideal candidate for this role will have 3-7 years of experience as a claim professional with experience handling Management liability claims including, Employment Practices liability, Directors and Officers Liability, Fiduciary Liability, as well as Crime claims on a national basis.This role works a hybrid schedule that requires working from the office Monday through Wednesday, with the option of working Thursday and Friday remotely.While we prefer candidates to work from one of our IAT office locations, we are open to considering fully remote arrangements for the ideal candidate.Responsibilities:Responsible for handling Management Liability Claims (EPL, D&O, Fiduciary and Crime) for Private and Non-Profit businesses based on Claim GuidelinesWithin authority limit, thoroughly analyze, investigate, negotiate and resolve all levels of severity claimsSelects, directs and manages defense counsel including approval of budgetsDevelops litigation/file disposition strategy. Attends mediations, settlement conferences and trialsVerifies/analyzes applicable coverage for the reported claimsFollow operational policies and procedures, including compliance, regulatory and performance and customer service standardsPrepare reports, including Large Loss Reports, to management which accurately reflects loss development, potential/actual financial exposure, coverage issues, claim and recovery strategiesEstablishes 24-hour contact and maintain appropriate contact with all involved stakeholders throughout the life of the claim fileIdentifies and addresses recovery/contribution/SIU opportunitiesSets accurate/timely loss/expense reserves in compliance with Claim Guidelines.Drafts correspondence, including but not limited to, coverage letters to stakeholders as requiredSupport business partners on an as needed basis on various claim and underwriting related issues and marketing meetingsMaintains resident/nonresident adjuster licenses as requiredPerform other duties as neededQualifications:Must-Have:Juris Doctorate requiredProperly licensed, registered or authorized, and in good standing, to practice law in the jurisdiction in which you will be working3-7 years management liability claim experience, including handling employment liability practices, directors & officers’ liability and fiduciary liability coveragesExcellent coverage analysis skills with experience in drafting coverage position correspondenceExperience handling litigated files and direction of defense counsel a plusExcellent negotiation skillsMust be willing to travel, average 1 day a month.Claims Licensure as required by respective state(s)CPCU and other insurance related studies are beneficialExcellent oral and written communication skillsAbility to organize, multi-task and prioritize workExcellent customer service and interpersonal skillsAbility to analyze data, utilize sound judgment to draw conclusion and make supported decisionsTo qualify, applicants must be authorized to work in the United States and must note require, now or in the future, VISA sponsorship for employment purposesAll qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, or status as a protected veteran. The total compensation will include a base salary, performance-based bonus opportunities, 401(K) match, profit sharing opportunities and more.
