This position is responsible for producing high quality mammographic images and all special examinations necessary, i.e., needle localizations, radiography of specimens, spot magnifications and stereotactic biopsies. This position is also responsible for performing quality assurance activities as established by the department and regulatory agencies in a timely and accurate manner.
Responsibilities
(70%)*Performs high quality mammographic examinations with accurate positioning and proper technique by following established standards. Minimizes radiation exposure to patients and staff by practicing radiation protection techniques.
(10%)*Demonstrates proficiency in special procedures: needle localizations, radiography of specimens, spot magnification views and/or stereotactic breast biopsies, and Bone Densitometry testing (DEXA) if done in their department.
(10%)*Shares in daily work related responsibilities such as putting away supplies, stocking linen, and cleaning equipment.
(10%)*Ensures operation of mammography equipment by completing preventive maintenance instructions; troubleshooting equipment; calling for service. Performs daily quality assurance testing and monitoring established by the department in a timely and accurate manner
Certifications and Licensures
ARRT - Reg Radiologic Technologist
Required Equivalent Experience - Knowledge of radiologic technique as normally acquired through completion of a JRCERT approved school of Radiologic Technology, or equivalent. ARRT registered in radiography.
ARRT M - Mammographer
Required Equivalent Experience - Obtain ARRT mammography certification within one year of hire date.
If not mammography registered, meet the MQSA initial mammography training requirements of 40 hours of mammography continuing education credits within 2 months of hire and performance of 25 mammograms under direct supervision of a qualified mammographer.
Meet continuing requirements of documentation of 15 hours of continuing education credits in mammography during the last three years.
BLS - Basic Life Support
Required Equivalent Experience - Required within 1 month of hire or transfer.
Required Education
Education: Associates Degree
Comments: Degree in Healthcare Related Field. Knowledge of radiologic technique as normally acquired through completion of an AMA approved school of Radiologic Technology. ARRT registered or registry eligible in mammography within 6 months of hire required.
