Job summary

UAB Medicine in Alabama is seeking a radiologic technologist specializing in mammography to operate imaging equipment, position patients, and ensure high-quality breast imaging for diagnostic and preventive care.

The role requires BLS within 30 days, possible bone density certification, and credentials in CR, ARDMS, or ARRT. The position supports a comprehensive radiology department with strict safety and PACS documentation standards.

Qualifications

• BLS Provider within 30 days of hire or transfer date required (American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted)
• Bone Density Certification may be required within 6 months of hire or transfer date (if applicable)
• One or more of the following credentials required prior to hire: Cardiographic Tech (CCI), ARDMS (Sonography), or ARRT (Radiography)
• Graduate of an accredited educational program in Radiologic Technology required

Responsibilities

• Operate mammography equipment and perform related procedures, preparing and positioning patients and selecting anatomical and technical parameters accurately
• Explain procedures and educate patients about the role of regular mammography in preventive breast health
• Develop and evaluate film for quality (density, contrast, definition, distortion)
• Follow radiation safety procedures and guidelines
• Ensure prompt submission of high-quality images and documents to PACS with correct markers and patient data
• Ensure equipment functions properly and report malfunctions
• Maintain a clean and orderly department including rooms, storage, dressing areas, and film storage
• May perform bone density scans using DEXA equipment if applicable
