Job Summary:

Performs mammograms on patients in an accurate and timely manner.

Work Schedule: This is a casual/PRN position. Casual/PRN employees work on an ‘as needed’ basis to meet the needs of the business. Work days/hours will often vary from week to week.

Responsibilities:

Essential Job Functions

Exam performance/quality

  • Identifies each patient by name and ensures patient understanding of pending procedure
  • Correctly identifies anatomical position with use of initialized lead markers
  • Performs additional views as requested by the radiologist
  • Critiques each exam for technical and positional accuracy and makes appropriate corrections if necessary
  • Completely fills out patient history sheet
  • Maintains files according to department policies
  • Shows a working knowledge of interpreting and recording Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) testing requirements mandated by the Mammography Quality Standards Act (MQSA).
  • Send films to appropriate sites for interpretation

Workflow management

  • Call back patients for additional views
  • Follow-up on procedures needing outside films to be read
  • Contact facilities to obtain comparison films
  • Stocks and maintains exam rooms
  • Provides management of department workflow in the absence of the Lead or as needed
  • Review orders for clinical and demographic consistency and verifies accuracy
  • Willfully assists physicians, patients, and co-workers as needed during exams
  • Willingly seeks opportunity to provide patient care or assist others as needed
  • Understand and support the direction and workflow of the department
  • Maintain awareness of on-going exams and assist co-workers as needed
  • Provide exam information and status updates to pertinent staff members
  • Relieves co-workers from procedures/exams as necessary
  • Be in the department and ready to work at the start of scheduled shift
  • Have processes set in place to allow for leaving at the end of scheduled shift
  • Completes all assigned tasks in a timely manner

Radiology Information System (RIS)/Cerner

  • Maintain a working knowledge of Cerner
  • Consistently uses Exam Management for order modification, to document comments and film usage/repeats
  • Starts and completes own exams correctly and in a timely manner
  • Show a working knowledge of Folder Media and Order View/Entry capabilities
  • Consistently uses the Online Worklist to monitor orders and order status
  • Consistently uses Film Tracking to document the movement of the films throughout their usage
  • Shows a working knowledge of order entry via Power Chart
  • Replace orders
  • Documents patient education
  • Double check orders, charge for exams appropriately using bill only and modifiers as needed

Department policy/procedures

  • Ensures proper patient identification on all films to comply with department policies and procedures
  • Willingly seeks opportunity to provide patient care or assist others as needed
  • Shows knowledge of department guidelines through responsible behavior/actions
  • Maintains updated American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) license
  • Maintains updated NE state license
  • Reports issues/concerns to Lead or Supervisor as soon as possible and provide assistance with resolution/follow-up
  • Fully complete and sign Advanced Beneficiary Notification (ABNs), film release and/or refusal waivers for any patient that meets department specific policy/procedure

Clinical enrichment

  • Provides and monitors “on the job training” per Methodist College standards
  • Maintains professional and courteous relationship with students and instructors
  • Provide leadership and guidance for students' education clinical experience

Confidentiality

  • Maintains patient confidentiality coinciding with Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
  • Maintains student/co-worker confidentiality coinciding with Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).
  • Ensure paper bins are emptied at the end of each day

Provides appropriate care specific to the age of the patient to ensure understanding and comfort level of treatment as outlined in the “Age Specific Criteria”.

  • Ensures patient comfort and understanding of ordered exam

Job Requirements

Education

  • Graduate of an accredited Radiologic Technology program required.
  • Advanced certification in Mammography required.


Experience

  • Previous Mammography experience preferred, but not required.
  • Required completion of 8 hours digital mammography training, and be current with Continuing Education (CE), and the Mammography Quality Standards Act (MQSA) requirements.


License/Certifications

  • Registered Radiography (RT.R. ARRT) certification required.
  • Registered Mammography (RT.M.ARRT) certification required.
  • Medical Radiographer license through the state of Nebraska (RAD.NE) required.
  • Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) strongly preferred at time of hire, required within 3 months of hire.


Skills/Knowledge/Abilities

  • Strong interpersonal skills necessary to effectively communicate and interact with patients, family members and hospital personnel/co-workers.
  • Ability to perform numerous tasks at once.
