Job description

Job Details

The Mammography Technologist performs mammography exams, screenings, and diagnostic studies, and assists during invasive procedures. Under the physician's direction, the technologist detects breast tissue abnormalities and presents findings for diagnosis. Provides patient care and education before, during, and after procedures.

Job Description
  1. Interacts with co-workers, visitors, and staff in line with Jefferson's values.
  2. Operates mammography equipment for screening and diagnostic exams.
  3. Ensures proper patient and breast positioning, instructs patients, and adjusts equipment for optimal images.
  4. Follows radiation safety standards to protect staff and patients.
  5. Documents mammogram services accurately in patient records.
  6. Provides pre- and post-procedure care, including explaining procedures and answering questions.
  7. Performs preventive maintenance and troubleshooting on mammography equipment.
  8. Completes other duties related to quality assurance as directed by supervisors.
  9. Maintains ongoing education to meet licensing and job requirements.
Competencies

Knowledge of mammographic imaging techniques, patient preparation, and emergency response skills.

Minimum Education and Experience
  • Graduate of recognized Radiology Sciences program or ARRT Registry in Radiology Technology. ARRT (R), (CT) preferred.
  • At least 40 hours of mammography training if qualifying after April 28, 1999.
  • Digital Mammography training or on-the-job training with competency and didactic completion within 3-5 months.
  • Preferred 6 months to 1-year experience.
Certifications and Licenses
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification.
  • ARRT certification in radiography and advanced certification in Mammography preferred.
  • Meeting MQSA CE requirements (15 CEUs in 36 months) preferred.
