RESIDENCE REQUIREMENTS: THERE ARE NO RESIDENCY REQUIREMENTS FOR PARTICIPATION IN THIS EXAMINATION. There is one vacancy at the Erie County Medical Center Corporation. The technologist salary is $78,250 - $84,228 annually and the trainee salary starts at $76,198-$82,006 annually.

If you pass the examination, your name will appear on the continuous eligible list for one year. After one year, your name will be removed from the list. You may apply for retest at six month intervals.

Job Description:

A Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) Technologist performs technical and quality assurance functions associated with MRI, Computed Tomography (CT), and radiographic procedures at the Erie County Medical Center Corporation (ECMCC).

  1. Performs or assists with MRI, CT, and radiographic procedures, including pre and post processing of images, following prescribed protocols.
  2. Prepares equipment and supplies; positions patients for imaging to ensure safety.
  3. Processes and files images for interpretation and report distribution/archive.
  4. Reviews images for accuracy and determines the need for retakes or additional views.
  5. Injects contrast pharmaceuticals via venous access as required by NY State Department of Health; reports adverse reactions.
  6. Administers ionizing radiation.
  7. Performs health teaching/patient screening and inquires related to contrast history.
  8. Schedules and prioritizes procedures for timely completion.
  9. Coordinates patient care with other departments.
  10. Ensures equipment is in safe working order and informs maintenance staff as needed.
  11. Performs regulatory compliance tasks and quality control.
  12. Engages with vendors, provides training, and participates in staff orientation and training programs.
  13. Serves on committees and participates in new technology/product in-services.
Minimum Qualifications:

As MRI Technologist (Job Grade Rad Scale 3): Graduation from an accredited school of Radiologic Technology and at least one year of MRI or CT experience.

As MRI Trainee (Job Grade Rad Scale 2): Graduation from an accredited school of Radiologic Technology. After one year of training and meeting requirements, eligible to advance to MRI Technologist without further examination.

Special Requirements:
  • Valid license and registration as a Radiologic Technologist from NY State Department of Health.
  • ARRT Certification with Radiology Primary Credential.
  • Certification to administer contrast media intravenously.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification from an ECMCC approved provider.
Additional Notes:
  • Candidates must pass safety and screening tests for MRI designated areas.
  • Degrees must be from accredited institutions; foreign degrees require verification.
  • Part-time and volunteer experience may be pro-rated.
  • Transcripts are required at application; additional transcripts at interview.

The exam will evaluate training and experience. Include detailed summaries of training (courses, seminars) and experience (employment dates, duties). Incomplete applications may be disqualified.
