Job summary

Intermountain Health is seeking a Mammography Technologist and Breast Sonographer at Good Samaritan Hospital in Lafayette, CO. The role is PRN and requires expertise in mammography, breast ultrasound, and biopsy procedures to support our radiology team.

You will ensure high-quality imaging, patient comfort, and adherence to safety protocols while collaborating with radiologists and staff in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited Radiologic Technology program.
  • ARRT Mammography certification or equivalent.
  • State Rad Tech license where applicable.
  • BLS certification for healthcare providers.
  • Evidence of Mammography and breast ultrasound proficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains ARRT or modality-specific competency in clinical and technical functions.
  • Identifies patient, verifies orders, and prepares for exam.
  • Performs radiologic breast imaging including Ultrasound and stereotactic/breast biopsy procedures.
  • Demonstrates proper positioning and records diagnostic information.
  • Operates mammography and ultrasound equipment to produce high-quality images.
  • Adheres to radiation safety and maintains a safe environment.
  • Provides patient education and ensures comfort.
  • Follows infection control and sterile techniques.
  • Documents procedures and any adverse reactions accurately.
  • Follows protocols, coding, consents, QC programs, and reports equipment issues.

Job Description

The Mammography Technologist and Breast Sonographer is responsible for performing screening and diagnostic mammography exams, breast ultrasounds, and biopsies and procedures on patients using specialized equipment. This position works closely with radiologists, and other healthcare professionals to ensure accurate and high-quality imaging results. This is a “hybrid” role used in areas where both mammography and sonography are required to provide patient care and this role requires a strong understanding of imaging techniques in both mammography and ultrasound, excellent patient care skills, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

As a Mammography Technologist and Breast Sonographer at Intermountain Health, you will play a vital role in supporting our clinical team, ensuring our patients receive the best care by:


Essential Functions


  • Maintains American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) or modality-specific competency in all clinical and technical functions

  • Ensures proper patient identification, orders verification, and prepares the patient for the exam

  • Performs radiologic breast imaging exams per department protocol including Breast Ultrasound and advanced Mammography procedures like stereotactic biopsies, Ultrasound core biopsies, clip placements, drainages, etc.

  • Demonstrates positioning competency.

  • Operates the mammography and ultrasound equipment with skills to identify and record anatomical, pathological, diagnostic information, ensuring high quality images are produced.

  • Adheres to radiation safety guidelines and maintains a safe working environment.

  • Provides appropriate patient education, ensures patient comfort, and addresses concerns.

  • Practices appropriate infection control and sterile techniques.

  • Thoroughly and accurately completes all required documentation, record patient information, procedures performed and any adverse reactions.

  • Follows protocols, coding, charging, consents, QC programs, and reporting equipment failures.

Required Qualifications


  • Graduate of an accredited program of Radiologic Technology

  • American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) Mammography

  • Rad Tech license in state of practice, if applicable in state of practice

  • Basic Life Support certification (BLS) for healthcare providers

  • Demonstrated experience and proficiency in Mammography and breast Ultrasound


Preferred Qualifications


  • ARRT Breast Ultrasound or ARDMS Sonography or ARDMS Sonography

  • Three years of experience working in Mammography and breast Ultrasound


Physical Requirements


  • Ongoing need for employee to see and read information, labels, assess patient needs, operate monitors, identify equipment and supplies.

  • Frequent interactions with patient care providers, patients, and visitors that require employee to verbally communicate as well as hear and understand spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately, particularly during emergency situations.

  • Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy. This includes frequent computer use and typing for documenting patient care, accessing needed information, medication preparation, etc.

  • Expected to lift and utilize full range of movement to transfer patients. Will also bend to retrieve, lift, and carry supplies and equipment. Typical include items of varying weights, up to and including heavy items.

  • Need to walk and assist with transporting/ambulating patients and obtaining and distributing supplies and equipment. This includes pushing/pulling gurneys and portable equipment, including heavy items. Often required to navigate crowded and busy rooms (full of equipment, power cords on the floor, etc.)

  • May be expected to stand in a stationary position for an extended period of time.

  • For roles requiring driving: Expected to drive a vehicle which requires sitting, seeing and reading signs, traffic signals, and other vehicles.
