Mammography Technologist# Mammography TechnologistHot Job## OverviewSalary Range$32.00 - $36.00 HourlyLevelExperiencedPosition TypeFull TimeJob ShiftDay## What you do**Summary:**Performs specialized examinations of the breast to help in the diagnosis and treatment of breast disease in women. Mammography Technologists may perform screening exams or diagnostic exams.**Essential Duties and Responsibilities** include the following. Other duties may be assigned.1. Perform diagnostic or screening examinations as ordered and in accordance with accepted standards of practice and protocols.2. Greets patients and reviews/explains the scheduled procedure. Obtains patient history and clinical data for correlation with procedure; consults with physicians as needed.3. Positions patient and adjusts equipment, selecting length and intensity for radiation exposure on individual basis. Observes patient for vital signs during procedure.4. Follows safety standards and uses radiation protection when operating radiologic Equipment.5. Evaluate radiographs for diagnostic quality obtaining additional images as needed.6. Produces high quality films for the radiologist to evaluate.7. Authorizes release of patients upon completion of radiologic examination.8. Serves as the primary liaison between patients and Radiologists and other members of the support team.9. Participates in QI, QA, QC activities with documented outcomes; Performs routine maintenance, diagnoses malfunctions, and makes minor repairs on radiologic equipment, arranging for repairs as needed.10. Completes forms and maintains records, logs, and reports of work performed.11. Follows guidelines for proper maintenance of mammography equipment and appearance of related work areas; Assumes responsibility for cleaning and supplying assigned area.12. Enhances professional growth through educational programs, conferences and workshops.13. Complies with Virginia Women’s Center’s policies and procedures. Follows guidelines required by HIPAA, OSHA, and Red Flags regulations. Maintains appropriate attendance and punctuality as defined by Virginia Women’s Center.**Qualifications**To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.**Education, Experience and/or Licensure** Graduate of an AMA accredited School of Radiology Technology, or completion of comparable program of study. Commonwealth of Virginia Radiologic Technologist License or Radiologic Technologist - Limited License. Current certification with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT). ARRT Advanced certification in mammography. Current BCLS certification. MQSA/FDA – 15 CEU’s every 3 years.**Knowledge, Skills & Abilities** * Knowledge of anatomy and physiology sufficient to pinpoint area for radiology.* Knowledge of radiology equipment and testing.* Knowledge of radiologic theory and practice including safety hazards common to radiology (including equipment, body mechanics and patient movement).* Knowledge of organizational policies, regulations and procedures to administer radiologic tests.* Knowledge of OSHA guidelines.* Skill in properly positioning patients to provide quality imaging* Skill in trouble shooting identifying equipment problems and in performing simple adjustments.* Skill in preparing and maintaining records, writing reports and responding to correspondence.* Skill in maintaining departmental quality assurance and quality control standards.* Ability to prioritize and maximize workload.* Ability to maintain the strictest patient confidentiality.* Ability to communicate with patient to ascertain needs before and during procedure.* Accuracy and efficiency in recording information in patients charts.* Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.* Ability to perform all duties using proper body mechanics.**Physical Demands**Requires full body motion. Must be able to lift/carry/move items weighing up to 50 pounds. Requires positioning patients. Stand for long periods with frequent squatting, twisting, bending, kneeling and reaching to prepare equipment, materials or objects in order to provide patient care or maintain the patient environment. Requires 20/20 correctable vision. Occasional stress in working with tense patients.**Work Environment**Exam and treatment rooms.
