# Lead Mammography Technologist## OverviewSalary Range$37.00 - $41.00LevelExperiencedPosition TypeFull TimeJob ShiftDayEducation Level2 Year DegreeTravel PercentageFloat between Richmond area officesCategoryHealthcare## What you doIn addition to performing specialized examinations of the breast to help in the diagnosis and treatment of breast disease, the lead mammography technologist also serves as a resource to the breast health personnel, assisting department staff with workflows and their use of imaging technology applications.**Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.**1. Selects equipment for use in mammography setup according to specifications of examination.2. Explains exam process to patient, instructs and assists patient in assuming physical position for examination to ensure cooperation and optimum test results.3. Keys test data and patient information into the mammography equipment to maintain record of test results.4. Maintains mammography and DXA equipment; manages department supply inventory.5. Maintains department records, reports, and files.6. Provides education and training for the mammography techs in regard to imaging techniques and the benefits and features of equipment.7. Assists with planning, orientation, and training for newly hired mammography staff.8. Provides assistance to the Imaging Services Manager to ensure that the professional education requirements for the technologists are met and maintained; including applicable licensure, certification, and/or accreditation standards.9. Monitors patient schedules and works with Imaging Manager to optimize templates.10. Develops work schedules for mammography and DXA staff members, reviews employee time off requests, and coordinates with Imaging Manager for final approval.11. Collaborates with the Radiologists to ensure all clinical protocols remain current.12. Assists Imaging Manager with all accreditation requirements. Manages QC across all office locations.13. Attends required meetings.14. Performs related work as required.15. Complies with Virginia Women’s Center’s policies and procedures. Follows guidelines required by HIPAA and OSHA regulations. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.**Education, Experience and Licensure*** Graduate of an accredited School of Radiologic Technology, or completion of a comparable program of study* Commonwealth of Virginia Radiologic Technologist License* Current certification with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT)(M)* MQSA/FDA – 15 CEUs every 3 years**Required Experience**Minimum of 3-years related work experienceDemonstrated advancement, growth, or progressively responsible experience**Preferred Experience**Minimum of 5-years related work experiencePrevious experience in management, leadership, and/or training role**Knowledge, Skills & Abilities**Knowledge of anatomy and physiology sufficient to pinpoint area for radiology.Knowledge of radiology equipment and testing.Knowledge of radiologic theory and practice including safety hazards common to radiology (including equipment, body mechanics, and patient movement).Knowledge of organizational policies, regulations, and procedures to administer radiologic tests.Knowledge of OSHA guidelines.Skill in properly positioning patients to provide quality imaging.Skill in troubleshooting and identifying equipment problems and in performing simple adjustments.Skill in preparing and maintaining records, writing reports, and responding to correspondence.Skill in maintaining departmental quality assurance and quality control standards.Ability to prioritize and maximize workload; to multitask and meet objectives and deadlines.Ability to effectively motivate and lead others.Ability to demonstrate strong oral and written communication skills.Ability to identify and implement quality improvement measures.Ability to maintain the strictest patient confidentiality.Ability to communicate with patient to ascertain needs before and during procedure.Accuracy and efficiency in recording information in patients’ charts.Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.Ability to perform all duties using proper body mechanics.**Physical Demands**Requires full body motion.
