POSITION SUMMARY

The Mammography Imaging Technologist independently produces high‑quality diagnostic mammography images while ensuring patient comfort, safety, and confidentiality. This role requires adherence to all safety protocols, strong technical knowledge of imaging equipment and computer systems, and the ability to exercise sound judgment in a fast‑paced clinical environment.

PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Independently operates all mammography equipment and adheres to proper imaging techniques.
  • Troubleshoots minor equipment issues and reports malfunctions to supervisors or service personnel.
  • Schedules, begins, completes, and cancels exams in the Radiology Information System (RIS).
  • Uses RIS and PACS proficiently for daily workflow.
  • Reviews imaging orders for accuracy and ensures appropriate exam selection based on patient signs and symptoms; seeks clarification when needed.
  • Explains procedures clearly to patients, assesses clinical history, and positions patients appropriately.
  • Provides all patient care with a focus on safety and error reduction.
  • Performs prescribed quality control checks and alerts appropriate staff to any system or equipment malfunction.
  • Adheres to all departmental radiation safety policies, including proper shielding.
REQUIRED POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
  • Satisfactory completion of formal technology training in an AMA approved school, registration by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).
  • Equivalent education and/or experience may substitute for minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license, certification, and/or registration. Legal Requirement Certified by the State of Washington as a Radiologic Technologist. Registered by ARRT as a Mammography Technologist, before completion of probationary period.
