Job summary

CARTI is seeking a Mammography Technologist responsible for performing mammographic imaging studies to detect breast tissue abnormalities. Qualifications

  • Associate degree or higher from an accredited institution; Radiologic Technology program completion.
  • Current ARRT certification and license required.
  • 2 years of mammography experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform mammography imaging studies and prepare them for diagnostic interpretation.
  • Conduct mammography studies by properly positioning patients and using equipment.

Job description

The Mammography Technologist is responsible for detecting breast tissue abnormalities by performing mammographic imaging studies and preparing them for diagnostic interpretation.

SPECIFIC JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Greets patients by confirming patient identification; reviewing imaging requests; checking for special instructions; confirming anticipated service with patients.
Gains patient cooperation by reducing anxieties; providing explanations of imaging procedures; explaining equipment; answering questions.
Conducts mammography studies by positioning breasts; adjusting compression mechanisms; instructing patient to hold breath; retreating to lead-protected area; adjusting equipment controls; activating exposure; releasing compression mechanisms; preparing for next views.
Minimizes radiation exposure to patients and staff by adhering to appropriate safety and radiation protection protocols.
Maintains production and quality of mammograms by following established protocols; reviewing results; adjusting techniques as needed; repeating images when necessary; forwarding completed studies for radiologist interpretation.
Ensures operability of equipment by completing preventive maintenance, following manufacturer instructions, troubleshooting, and coordinating necessary repairs.
Maintains supply readiness and cleanliness by inventorying stock, placing supply orders, and managing patient linen.
Maintains a safe, secure, and clean working environment by complying with policies and procedures.
Documents services performed by completing accurate patient charting and image tracking.
Enhances professional development by engaging in continuing education, reading current literature, and participating in professional organizations.
Actively participates in CARTI research projects as requested.
Performs other duties as assigned.

OTHER JOB REQUIREMENTS: Maintain all Quality Control and Quality Improvements. Maintain good standing with all accrediting boards. Travel will be required to cover census needs at all locations.

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, LICENSURE, REGISTRATION:

Associate degree or higher from an accredited institution; or successful completion of an accredited Radiologic Technology program.
Current ARRT certification and registration in Radiography (R).
Valid Radiologic Technologist License (RTL) issued by the Arkansas Department of Health.
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.

EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES:

2 years mammography experience preferred.

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, or schedule form.

INTERPERSONAL SKILLS:

Must interact and communicate both verbally and in written form.
Must interact and exchange information regarding patients with physicians and other departmental personnel, and outside agencies on a frequent basis while respecting the confidentiality of patient information.
