Responsibilities

• Specializes in production of screening and diagnostic mammograms.

• Operates and maintains mammography equipment to ensure proper function.
• Positions patients and adjusts exposure factors per protocols to capture requested images.
• Performs quality assurance and adheres to radiation safety practices to minimize exposure.
• Keeps documentation, logs and records in paper and electronic formats.
• Maintains supplies and performs routine maintenance checks on imaging equipment.
• May assist other Radiology areas as assigned.

Position Summary:Performs digital mammograms of the breast at a technical level that will produce high quality mammographic images consistent with established policies & procedures at a technical level typically requiring general supervision.May perform breast imaging procedures.

Job Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

• Specializes in the production of screening and diagnostic mammograms for the detection of breast tumors.
• Obtains patient history, explains standard procedures, and addresses patient concernsto foster a sense of comfort and confidence to patients and ensure the needs of individual patients are met.
• Operates and maintains all assigned mammography equipment to ensure it works properly.
• Positions patients and moves mammographic equipment to specific positions and adjusts controls to set exposure factors based on knowledge of radiographic exposure techniques and protocols. Correctly captures the images requested by a physician.
• Completes quality assurance processes and practices radiation safety in order to reduce exposure to patients, staff and self.
• Maintains all required documentation, logs, charts, forms and records in paper and electronic formats.
• Maintains an adequate supply of all consumables to perform quality testing.
• Performs all routine daily, weekly, monthly, and periodic maintenance and function checks following established protocol for all imaging equipment.
• May assist other areas of Radiology as assigned.

Qualifications:

Required:

• High School diploma or GED
• Graduation from an AMA-approved school of Radiology Technology
• Certified in general radiologic technology by the American Registry of Radiologic Technology (ARRT)
• Certified in Mammography by American Registry of Radiologic Technologist
• Current BLS certification

Preferred:

• Associate’s Degree in radiology
