Job summary

Community Health Center of Southeast Kansas Inc. is seeking a Mammography Technologist to perform diagnostic mammography examinations and related radiologic imaging in a patient-centered environment. Responsibilities include operating imaging equipment, ensuring radiation safety, maintaining documentation, and collaborating with care teams.

Requires KS LRT license, ARRT, and BLS. Travel to CHC/SEK and CHC/OK clinics may be required.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited Radiology Technology program.
• Current Kansas LRT license.
• Current ARRT with RT(R) credentials; ARRT(M) credential preferred.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) through the American Heart Association within ninety days of hire.
• Prior Mammography Technologist experience preferred.
• Must possess a valid driver’s license; travel is required.
• Bilingual in Spanish or Marshallese preferred, but not required.

Responsibilities

• Performs diagnostic mammography exams per orders, protocols, safety standards, and regulations; ensures imaging quality.
• Verify patient identity, collect history, communicate procedures clearly, position patients with compassion.
• Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot mammography equipment and PACS; perform QA checks and report equipment concerns.
• Evaluate mammographic images for quality, repeat only as needed, and transmit images to Radiologist promptly.
• Document patient information and exam results accurately in systems to ensure continuity of care.
• Collaborate with providers, nursing, radiologists, and other staff to ensure efficient workflows and timely patient services.
• Prepare and maintain exam rooms, supplies, and equipment for safe, organized clinical environment.
• Engage in quality improvement activities, continuing education, and departmental meetings.
• May cross-train in other imaging modalities, Lab, or Medical Assistant duties as needed.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

This position is a part of the Clinical team. The Mammography Technologist performs diagnostic mammography examinations to assist healthcare providers in the early detection and diagnosis of breast disease. This position provides safe, high-quality imaging services while ensuring patient comfort, radiation safety, regulatory compliance, and exceptional customer service. This position works collaboratively with interdisciplinary care teams to provide accessible, patient-centered care for all patients. This position prepares patients, positions them correctly, operates imaging equipment, and maintains accurate documentation while following physician orders and radiation safety standards. The Mammography Technologist will perform other radiologic imaging duties including x-ray and CT, as well as assisting in training/supporting unlicensed staff to perform limited imaging, as well as reviewing images.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Performs diagnostic mammography exams in accordance with provider orders, department protocols, professional and safety standards, and applicable federal and state regulations while ensuring diagnostic imaging quality.
• Verify patient identity, review imaging orders, obtain relevant medical and personal history, clearly communicate with patients explaining the procedure process, position patients appropriately, and provide compassionate, patient-centered care to all patients.
• Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot mammography equipment, image processing systems, and PACS while performing routine quality assurance checks and promptly reports equipment concerns.
• Evaluate mammographic images for quality and completeness, repeat imaging only when clinically necessary, and ensure timely transmission of images to the Radiologist for interpretation.
• Accurately documents patient information, breast health history, imaging procedures, and exam results in appropriate systems in a timely manner to ensure continuity of care.
• Collaborate with providers, nursing, referral, radiologist, and other members of the healthcare team to ensure efficient workflows, continuity of care, and timely patient services.
• Prepares and maintains exam rooms, supplies, and equipment to ensure a safe, organized, and efficient clinical environment.
• Participates in quality improvement activities, continuing education, competency validation, departmental meetings, and initiatives that support high-quality patient care.
• May be required to cross train in other imaging modalities, Lab, and/or Medical Assistant duties.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Graduate of an accredited Radiology Technology program.
• Current Kansas LRT license.
• Current ARRT with a minimum of R.T.(R)(ARRT) credentials. ARRT (M) credential preferred.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) through the American Heart Association (AHA) within ninety (90) days of hire.
• Prior work experience as a Mammography Technologist preferred.
• Must possess a valid driver’s license, as travel is required. Must maintain driving standards- no more than 2 minor or 1 major driving violations within a 3-year lookback period.
• Bilingual in Spanish or Marshellese preferred, but not required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

• Knowledge of radiographic positions, anatomy, physiology, imaging principles, infection prevention, imaging safety practices/procedures, and OSHA safety standards.
• Ability to produce high-quality diagnostic images while maintaining patient safety.

• Must be able to maintain good inter-personal relationship with co-workers and other members of the health care team and the organization.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office products, PACS, and Electronic Health Records (EHR), preferably E-Clinical Works (eCW).
• Ability to recognize urgent findings and communicate appropriately through established clinical procedures/protocols.
• Ability to adapt to changing priorities while maintaining a positive demeanor, professionalism, excellent customer service, remaining organized, managing/prioritizing tasks to meet deadlines, and collaborating as a team.
• Maintain patient confidentiality in accordance to organization’s policy and procedure and HIPAA requirements.
• Ability to provide coverage at other CHC/SEK or CHC/OK clinics, as business needs arise.
• Ability to handle emergency situations calmly and effectively.

WORKING CONDITIONS

• Multiple times per day, alternating between sitting, standing, and walking throughout the clinic. Sitting may occur for prolonged periods while completing administrative related work. Frequently bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, twist, or reach while positioning patients, accessing and utilizing equipment and supplies.
• Maintain repetitive, manual dexterity to sufficiently use hands and fingers for keyboarding, writing, and operating medical and imaging equipment. As well as reaching, grasping, handling, manipulating medical instruments and office equipment. Repetitive hand, wrist and finger movements related to clerical and clinical duties. These tasks are performed on a frequent, daily basis.
• Communicate effectively in person, by telephone, and through virtual communication platforms. Must be able to clearly speak, hear, and distinguish speech and clinical sounds.
• Maintain visual acuity necessary to perform patient imaging and clinical documentation. Read and interpret printed materials, computer screens, diagnostic reports, imaging studies, and other clinical information. Prolonged exposure to computer use, up to entire shift, is required.
• Frequently push or pull equipment or medical supplies, lifting, transferring, repositioning and assisting patient to obtain appropriate imaging scans.
• Exposure to radiation, communicable diseases, bloodborne pathogens, bodily fluids, hazardous materials, and other environmental risks common in an outpatient healthcare setting. Appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and infection prevention protocols must be followed.
• Advanced clinical judgment, critical thinking, complex problem-solving and decision-making under pressure. Ability to multitask, managing multiple competing priorities simultaneously, respond to interruptions, and make timely clinical and administrative decisions. High attention to detail and accuracy.
• Respond quickly and effectively during medical emergencies, including moving rapidly throughout the clinic and assisting in emergency response efforts.
• Maintains composure and professionalism during stressful, high-volume, and/or emergency situations and to effectively manage returning to normal operations immediately after an event occurs.
• Possesses the ability to effectively engage in interdisciplinary teamwork, and conflict resolution to maintain a professional, collaborative, and efficient environment.
