Description:
Performs mammography procedures in accordance with applicable scope and standards of practice.
Reports to: Director Diagnostic Services and Imaging Supervisor
Reviews patient history and physician's orders. Educates patient regarding procedures, equipment and exam to ensure patient's understanding and cooperation. When ordered, prepares and administers contrast media and/or medications within scope of practice. Monitors patient condition continually and reports/responds to changes in status as appropriate. May assist physician with performing interventional procedures including fine needle aspiration and needle localization. Prepares equipment and supplies. Selects appropriate exposure factors and imaging parameters. Implements safety standards and performs appropriate quality control procedures on equipment. Troubleshoots, resolves, and/or reports equipment malfunctions as necessary. Participates in ensuring compliance with the Mammography Quality Standards Act (MQSA) regulations and applicable accrediations. Positions patient and performs imaging procedure(s), biopsies, stereotactic and special procedures. Analyzes results and identifies issues with the quality of imaging results. Takes appropriate action to resolve image quality issues, including repositioning patient and repeating procedure. Enters, transmits, and reports scan results. Keeps current with BiRad and follow-ups on all patients.
Qualifications:
Minimum EducationGraduate from a Radiologic Technology program - Required Required SkillsRequires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action. Required SkillsCertifications:
Basic Life Support (BLS) from American Heart Association or American Red Cross training center is required within 90 days of employment, if not current upon hire Required SkillsLicenses:
Must be registered with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) (R) (M). Cross-training or transfer is welcome for valid ARRT technologists; technologist must acquire valid Mammography registration within 12 months of transfer date or start date of cross-training Minimum Work Experience
One (1) year experience as a mammography technologist performing screening, diagnostic, biopsy and specimen procedures - Preferred
