A rare opportunity to build something from the ground up. New Horizon Health Center (NHHC) is preparing to launch mammography services and is seeking an experienced mammography professional who can combine outstanding patient care with program leadership. This is a working-manager role for someone who wants to shape the service, establish the standards, and help expand access to breast cancer screening for the communities we serve.
Reports to
Director of Clinical Support Services
Role Type
Full-time working clinical leader
Focus
Launch + operations + direct mammography care
Setting
FQHC / ambulatory community health
THE OPPORTUNITY
- Build the program. Help lead mammography implementation from pre-launch through go-live, including workflow design, policy development, equipment readiness, accreditation/certification preparation, and operational start-up.
- Be the clinical expert. Perform high-quality screening and diagnostic mammography while setting expectations for positioning, image quality, patient comfort, documentation, and safe practice.
- Own quality and compliance. Serve as the primary mammography QC technologist unless another qualified technologist is designated, and maintain an inspection-ready program aligned with MQSA, Texas DSHS, ACR, manufacturer requirements, and NHHC policy.
- Lead the team. Recruit, orient, train, schedule, coach, and evaluate mammography staff as the service grows.
- Drive access and follow-up. Work across primary care, women's health, referrals, navigation, and radiology partners to reduce barriers to screening and ensure timely follow-up after abnormal or incomplete studies.
- Run the service like an owner. Track volume, access, utilization, no-shows, repeat/reject rates, callback rates, report turnaround, patient experience, follow-up completion, staffing, budget, and service-line performance.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
- Perform mammography examinations in accordance with approved protocols, physician orders, manufacturer instructions, and applicable standards.
- Assess images for positioning, exposure, artifacts, and technical adequacy while appropriately deferring diagnostic interpretation to the interpreting physician.
- Coordinate QC testing, medical physicist activities, equipment service/corrective action, accreditation submissions, regulatory inspections, and ongoing credential files.
- Develop and maintain policies, work instructions, logs, competency tools, downtime processes, and inspection-readiness documentation.
- Partner with Imaging/Clinical Support Services, the Lead Interpreting Physician, medical physicist, Compliance, IT/EHR/PACS, Revenue Cycle, Purchasing, Facilities, and external radiology partners.
- Support community education and outreach activities, including occasional early, evening, or weekend events when needed.
WHAT YOU BRING
- Graduate of an accredited radiologic technology program.
- Current ARRT(R) and ARRT(M) certification.
- Current Texas Medical Radiologic Technologist (MRT) credential in good standing.
- Documented compliance with all current mammography technologist qualification requirements, including initial training, supervised examinations, continuing experience, continuing education, and any required modality-specific training.
- At least 3 years of recent mammography experience; 5 years preferred.
- At least 2 years of lead, supervisory, manager, or comparable program-responsibility experience.
- Hands-on digital mammography experience; DBT/3D mammography experience strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated experience with mammography QC and regulatory/accreditation readiness.
- Strong leadership, organization, communication, patient-service, and performance-improvement skills.
- Spanish-English bilingual capability required unless NHHC approves an equivalent language-access accommodation.
THE CANDIDATE WHO WILL THRIVE HERE
You are a builder, not simply a caretaker of an established department. You know the clinical details of mammography, but you also enjoy creating systems, solving operational problems, coaching others, preparing for inspections, and turning quality standards into reliable daily practice. You are comfortable working across clinical, technical, regulatory, and administrative teams and are motivated by the opportunity to create a service that is accessible, patient-centered, compliant, and sustainable.
WHY THIS ROLE MATTERS AT NHHC
This role will help establish a new breast-imaging capability within a community health center environment. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to influence the program from its earliest stages, shape the patient experience, build the operating model, and help NHHC expand access to breast cancer screening and follow-up services for patients across the Rio Grande Valley.
PREFERRED DIFFERENTIATORS
- Bachelor's degree in radiologic sciences, healthcare administration, business, or a related field.
- Experience opening, relocating, expanding, accrediting, or materially improving a mammography service.
- Experience with ACR mammography accreditation and Texas mammography certification processes.
- Experience with equipment procurement, installation, acceptance activities, vendor implementation, or imaging-service start-up.
- Experience in an FQHC, ambulatory imaging center, hospital outpatient department, or safety-net setting.
- Experience with patient navigation, population-health screening initiatives, or underserved populations.
If you want to do more than perform mammograms - if you want to build a high-quality program and lead its growth - NHHC wants to hear from you.
