Job summary

University Hospitals is seeking a Mammographer PRN to perform mammography procedures, ensuring high-quality images while minimizing radiation exposure. You will follow MQSA guidelines, assist radiologists, and educate patients on the process.

The role requires accurate record-keeping, adherence to ALARA standards, and maintaining patient privacy. Experience with PACS/RIS and diagnostic imaging workflows is preferred, and license requirements must be met.

Qualifications

  • Completion of an accredited 2-year program in Radiologic Technology is required.
  • 1+ years Registered Mammography technologist experience preferred.
  • 1+ years Registered X-ray technologist experience required.

Responsibilities

  • Performs mammography testing and procedures for patients.
  • Performs quality mammograms with minimal radiation exposure.
  • Assists radiologists as needed and adheres to safety protocols.
  • Maintains patient privacy and follows HIPAA rules.
  • Educates patients on procedures and positioning.

Description - External

By joining the mammography team, you will perform examinations to help detect and diagnose breast disease, including breast cancer. You will have the opportunity to educate patients on procedures, properly position patients to obtain accurate images, and follow established imaging and radiation safety protocols. Working collaborating with healthcare professionals, you will help with early detection and diagnosis.

What You Will Do
  • Performs mammography testing and procedures for patients.
  • Performs quality mammograms following prescribed techniques, with minimal radiation exposure to patients and self.
  • Knowledge of MQSA, required QC procedures, and required patient outcomes tracking.
  • Able to perform all applicable equipment quality control. Accurately records all requested database / log records
  • Assists radiologists as needed.
  • Consistently follows hospital and department policies and protocols,
  • Maintains patient privacy and confidentiality in accordance with privacy laws (HIPPA) and facility policies.
  • Takes responsibility for self-development and supports learning e nvironment.

Provides age-specific care to neonates through geriatrics.

Consistently follows hospital and department guidelines for patient identification and safety.

Adheres to ALARA, Image Gently and Image Wisely standards

Adheres to hospital mammography safety standards

Effectively follows directions to maintain compliance with State and Federal Agencies.

Effectively follows directions to maintain department readiness based on DNV standards.

Proficient at instructing students and new staff members after 1 year experience.

Additional Responsibilities

Uses administrative skills to co ntribute to the successful operation of the department by entering and completing correct billing codes in the RIS and on patient billing sheets.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Complies with all policies and standards.
  • For specific duties and responsibilities, refer to documentation provided by the department during orientation.

Must abide by all requirements to safely and securely maintain Protected Health Information (PHI) for our patients . Annual t raining, the UH Code of Conduct and UH policies and procedures are in place to address appropriate use of PHI in the workplace

Education Qualifications
  • Other Accredited Program: Completion of an accredited 2-year program in a school of Radiologic Technology (Required)
Experience Qualifications
  • 1+ years Registered X-ray technologist with at least one year experience preferred (Preferred)
  • 1+ years Registered Mammography technologist with less than two years of experience (Required)
  • 1+ years Proficient at instructing students and new staff after one year experience (Required)
  • less than 1-year Clear knowledge of modality specific equipment computers, pacs, EMR and RIS (Required)
  • less than 1 year Must demonstrate ability to work independently (Required)
  • less than 1 year Ability to troubleshoot and solve problems as they arise (Required)
  • less th an 1 year Clear knowled ge of imaging and exam protocols (Required)
Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of X-R ay unit , computers, wheelchairs, O2 tanks, immobilization devices, PACS and radiology information system . (Req uired proficiency)
  • Ability to operate mammography equipment. (Required proficiency)
  • Knowledge of QC and MQSA standards. (Required proficiency)
Licenses and Certifications
  • Registered Technologist Radiography (ARRT-R) (Required Upon Hire) and
  • Current License State of Ohio (Required Upon Hire) and
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) (Required Upon Hire) and
  • Registered Technologist Mammography (ARRT-M) (Required within 1 Year)
