Qualifications

  • Completion of a 2-year approved Radiological Technology Program is required.
  • Current license in Connecticut required.
  • Registered or registry eligible with the American Registry of Radiological Technologists.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts mammography studies; adjusts equipment and positions patients.
  • Maintains production and quality of mammograms; meets established standards.
  • Performs all aspects of Mammography including Needle localizations and Stereotactic Breast Biopsies.

Mammographer Job Summary:

Under the direction of the radiologist and/or DI Administration performs professional duties

which involve a variety of technical procedures to apply prescribed ionizing radiation for radiological diagnosis. Assist physicians in selection of practical application and technical factors.

Mammographer Job Responsibilities:

  • Conducts mammography study by positioning breasts; adjusting compression mechanisms; instructing patient to hold breath; retreating to lead protected area; adjusting equipment controls to set exposure factors; activating equipment to take image; releasing compression mechanisms; preparing for next positioning and view.
Maintains production and quality of mammograms by following established standards and

adjustments for optimum results; retaking mammograms as required; forwarding completed studies to radiologist for interpretation.

  • Maintains production and quality of mammograms by following established standards and procedures; developing mammograms; observing mammogram results; determining necessary. adjustments for optimum results; retaking mammograms as required; forwarding completed studies to radiologist for interpretation.
  • Performs all aspects of Mammography including Needle localizations and Stereotactic Breast Biopsies.
  • Set, adjust, manipulate, control and maintain a variety of complex electronic equipment to apply ionizing radiation to patients for diagnosis of disease using proper KVP, MA, exposure time and focal film distance.
Practice radiation protection techniques, using beam restrictive devices, patient shielding skills, and knowledge of applicable exposure factor, to minimize radiation to patient, staff and self.

Explain the procedure to the patient. Instruct and assist patient in assuming physical position for exam.

Mammographer Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Completion of a 2-year approved Radiological Technology Program required.
  • Current license in the State of Connecticut required.
  • Registered, or registry eligible, with the American Registry of Radiological Technologists required.
  • Maintenance of appropriate CEU's to meet ARRT guidelines required.
  • CPR – Current AHA Healthcare Provider Certification / equivalent within 3 months of hire is required.
  • Approved computer registration according to the Admitting policies, if applicable, is preferred.
  • Mammographersare required to be registered, or registry eligible, in Mammography with the American Registry of Radiological Technologists.
  • Mammographersmust maintain annual educational requirements as described by MQSA. 8 digital mammography hours of training.
  • Minimum of 1-year practical experience performing related duties as a radiographer is preferred.
Mammographer Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • High degree of technical aptitude with an in-depth knowledge of anatomy and physiology.
Ability to set, adjust, manipulate, control and maintain a variety of complex electronic equipment to apply ionizing radiation to patients for diagnosis of disease.

Ability to measure, calculate, and select proper electronic and technical factors such as KVP, MA, exposure time and focal film or focal object distance; select proper type of film and accessories.
