Job summary

UPMC Magee-Womens Hospital is seeking a full-time Mammographer for the Outpatient Center in West Mifflin. This role supports correlative breast imaging, patient education, and meticulous mammography procedures using state-of-the-art imaging technology.

Responsibilities include performing a range of mammography views, preparing patients, and ensuring accurate RIS coding and archiving. Occasional travel to Magee imaging offices is required, with a 50% travel ceiling.

Responsibilities

• Performs correlative breast examinations and documents scars, moles, and pertinent findings.
• Provides individualized breast self-examination instruction and discusses the importance of an annual clinical breast examination performed by a qualified healthcare provider.
• Identifies patients properly using two identifiers, reviews history and orders, and documents history in the electronic record.
• Performs mammography procedures, including compression, positioning, and various views for diagnostic quality.
• Prepares patient for mammography and ensures safety and comfort.
• Communicates instructions clearly to patients and explains procedures to alleviate fears and gain cooperation.
• Ensures exams are coded in RIS, archived, and charges entered correctly.
• Assists with invasive imaging procedures: ultrasound, biopsy, clip placement, ductogram, wire localization, sentinel node injection.
• Performs equipment quality control and manages radioactive material safety.
• May demonstrate venipuncture technique if required.
• May administer PO/IV contrast and assess patient risk prior to contrast.

Work Schedule:

• Primarily daylight shifts, Monday through Friday!
• Occasional evening shift (11 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.).
• Occasional, rotating Saturday shift (7 a.m. to 3 p.m.).
• NO holidays, on-call, or Sundays!
• Travel to other local Magee-Womens Imaging offices required – up to 50% of the time depending on staffing coverage needs.
  • Mammographers are able to choose their two other rotational locations!

Applicants will be placed in the appropriate job title and salary based on individual experience and education, per manager discretion.

Responsibilities:

• Performs correlative breast examinations and documents scars, moles, and pertinent findings.
• Provides individualized breast self-examination instruction and discusses the importance of an annual clinical breast examination performed by a qualified healthcare provider.
• Identifies all patients properly by using two patient identifiers, reviews patient history and assesses physician orders, and documents patient history in electronic record, as required.
• Performs mammography procedures, including proper application of breast compression, positioning, and a variety of special mammography views to maximize the diagnostic quality of the examination.
• Prepares patient for mammography procedure and tends to the physical safety and comfort of the patient.
• Demonstrates the ability to communicate instructions to patients in a clear and concise manner, and explains procedures to help allay the patients' fears and solicit their cooperation.
• Ensures all exams are properly coded and tracked through RIS system, all exams are properly networked for archiving and interpretation, and all charges are adequately entered for the exams performed.
• Assists with the following Invasive Breast Imaging Procedures: ultrasound and stereo tactic guided needle biopsy, clip placement, ductogram, wire localization, radioactive see localization, and sentinel node injection procedures.
• Performs equipment quality control procedures and maintains radioactive material safety.
• If required by this department, must demonstrate proper technique in venipuncture.
• May be required to administer PO and IV contrast per physician orders/department policy and assess patients for potential risk factors prior to the administration of the contrast.
