Job Summary

Provides health care services, applying x-ray energy to assist in diagnosis or treatment. Performs medical imaging techniques and related procedures to demonstrate breast anatomy for interpretation and/or intervention by, or at the request of a licensed practitioner. Exercises professional judgment in performance of services and maintains a demeanor complementary to medical ethics. Applies appropriate patient care and recognizes patient conditions essential for successful completion of the procedure. Performs all mammogram examinations of the breast consistent with the high standards of the Radiology Department as well as the standards of the ACR and ISBH quality control. The mammographer will show and review all diagnostic breast images with Radiologist before releasing the patient.

Job Duties and Responsibilities
  • Follows all duties and responsibility of staff radiologic technologist, as well as duties and responsibilities required for performing breast imaging procedures.
  • Selects and operates breast imaging equipment and associated devices to achieve desired results.
  • Evaluates mammograms or other breast images for technical quality, assuring proper identification is recorded.
  • Verifies informed consent for and assist a licensed practitioner with interventional procedures; needle localizations, aspirations, biopsies, and ductograms.
  • Performs radiography of pathologic breast specimens.
  • Understands methods and is capable of providing or assisting with physical breast inspection, palpation or breast ultrasound.
  • Provides patient education, including presentation of breast self‑exam videotape.
  • May be responsible for control of inventor, care and control of specific mammography items such as cassettes, intensifying screens, fil, and compression devices.
  • Pursues appropriate continuing education.
  • Responsible for set‑up and clean‑up.
  • Responsible for preparation of patients and calling patients in advance of exam to verify appointment time and answer any questions the patient might have at that time.
  • Compliance with all ACR/Medicare/ISBH/MQSA quality control requirements.
  • Responsible for performing all mammography quality control.
  • Responsible for new technologist mammography orientation.
  • Responsible for reviewing ACR/Medicare/ISBH/FDA/MQSA manual on an annual basis. Responsible for meeting with the MQSA examiner and preparing package for ACR evaluation.
  • Informs the patient that mammograms are kept on file indefinitely.
  • Performs other duties as assigned (LEAVE ON FOR NON‑EXEMPT JOBS ONLY)

Education Experience: HS Graduate or Equivalent

Years of Related Experience: 1-2 Years

License/Certificate Required: Yes

Driver's License Required: Yes
