Job description

POSITION SUMMARY:

Under general direction, conducts daily operation and programming within the West Central Juvenile Detention Facility. Adheres to applicable federal and state laws, ensures compliance with regulations set forth by the American Correctional Association and the Department of Youth Services standards. Maintains security of the facility and grounds while ensuring safety of youth. Directs youth through daily scheduled activities confirming that proper care is provided to include but not limited to: medical needs, hygiene items and food. Conducts detention intakes and ensures required information is obtained from youth. Processes required assessments and screenings while ensuring youth are familiar with and aware of all requirements and procedures while detained. Provides assistance and guidance to youth through the detainment process and gives general guidance during difficult or unusual situations.


QUALIFICATIONS:

We will train you, however any combination of training and work experience that indicates possession of the skills, knowledge, and abilities required is a plus. Completion of a High School Diploma or equivalent. Must be 21 years of age, possess a valid driver’s license and proof of motor vehicle insurance. Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen and criminal background investigation to include fingerprint analysis. Must be able to complete and maintain training in accordance to Ohio Revised Code 5139-37-06 (standards for operation of Juvenile Detention Centers).


DUTIES:

Responsible for the intake, release and daily observation of youth who are placed in the facility via a court order or pursuant to the laws of arrest. Oversee daily youth activity including but not limited to: personal hygiene, education, physical education, recreation, communication with parents, and escort to meals. Works from divisional and functional policies using a wide range of procedures and plans. Ability to work, communicate with and facilitate youth in a secure environment that operates under direct supervision philosophies. Duties require judgment, initiative and ability to deal with complex factors not easily evaluated. Decision-making has impact on various work units within the facility, incarcerated youth, staff and other outside agencies. Is required to submit a wide range of reports and other documents to internal and outside agencies. Works with confidential information. Error in work and decisions may not be readily detectable and could directly affect life outcome to include injury, severe injury and/or death. Involves considerable accuracy in documentation and high degree of accountability and responsibility. These duties are illustrative only and you may perform some or all of these duties or other job-related duties as assigned.

$23.00 per hour
