Position Summary:
The Registered Dental Assistant is responsible for providing chair-side assistance to dental providers with procedures, patient education, and proper care of dental supplies and equipment, to ensure efficient and smooth dental procedures
The Registered Dental Assistant is expected to work in a team-based environment where the approach is a whole person care approach that engages the patient in their health care and requires all team members to be effective and supportive communicators. A high degree of integration and collaboration is required to meet the varying and changing needs of our patients.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

General Dental Assisting:
- Prepares patients for procedures by seating them, preparing patients for procedure, completing, and reviewing required forms and consents and reviews health histories.
- Prepares patients for x-rays, takes x-rays and exposes, develops and mounts x-ray films.
- Prepare and track lab cases through completion.
- Apply fluoride.
- Pouring models.
- Conducts any pre-procedure testing as required.
- Prepare a pick list for Patient Accounts to assist with treatment estimates.
- Assists in procedures by setting up and arranging appropriate instruments for the procedure to be performed.
- Assists provider as directed with variety of procedures, such as impressions, mixing cement.
- Breaks down room after procedures, disinfects equipment and prepares for next use.
- Assists Dental Hygienists with procedures.
- Maintains records and files by recording data and information into patient files.
- Ensures procedures are documented and assists patients with scheduling follow-up care.
- Assists in maintaining equipment by cleaning and disinfecting equipment.
- Reviews and maintains inventory of supplies for office and lab.
Registered Dental Assisting:
- Instruct in care of all dental appliances.
- Take impressions for study and opposing models and take impressions for intraoral appliances including bite registration.
- Take final impressions for indirect prosthesis including bite registration, with completion of required course.
- Applying non-prescription topical anesthetic solution.
- Provide nutritional counseling for oral health and maintenance.
- Inspecting and charting the oral cavity using a mouth mirror and radiographs.
- Place and remove dental dam.
- Apply anticariogenic agents including, but not limited to, sealants, fluoride varnish, and fluoride applications.
- Perform preliminary examination including performing pulp vitality testing.
- Apply desensitizing agents.
- Place and remove matrices and wedges.
- Apply cavity liners and bases.
- Place and remove norepinephrine retraction cords and materials.
- Remove sutures.
- Assist and monitor the administration of nitrous oxide by a dentist or the RDH, with the completion of the required course.
- Conform with and abide by all regulations, policies, work practices and instructions.
Education/Training/Experience
- Minimum of High School diploma (or equivalent).
- License as a Registered Dental Assistant (RDA) or a Registered Dental Assistant in Extended Functions (RDAEF).
- Must have BLS certification or the ability to attain one.
- Radiology certification.
- 1-2 years of experience as an RDA preferred.
