American Electric Power (AEP) is seeking a Procurement Manager, Major Projects, to serve as the primary procurement partner for assigned transmission capital projects. Embedded with the project team, you will lead procurement integration across materials, equipment, services, and contracts to support delivery.

You will coordinate with Procurement, Supply Chain, Engineering, and Construction to ensure milestones are met and risk is mitigated.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field with 8+ years of relevant experience.
  • Associate’s degree with 10+ years or a high school diploma with 12+ years of relevant experience.
  • Proven ability to lead complex cross-functional initiatives without direct authority.
  • Strong knowledge of procurement processes, contracting, and supplier management.
  • Experience on large capital, utility, transmission, or infrastructure projects.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary procurement liaison and coordinator for assigned major projects.
  • Develop, maintain, and drive the integrated project procurement plan aligned with milestones.
  • Translate schedules into coordinated procurement, sourcing, and contracting plans.
  • Represent material and capacity needs within portfolio planning and priority-setting.
  • Maintain dashboards and risk registers for milestones, supplier capacity, and issues.
  • Coordinate cross-functional execution across multiple stakeholders and teams.
  • Establish clear accountability, decision paths, and escalation processes.
  • Communicate readiness, risks, mitigation plans, and key decisions to leadership.
  • Leverage analytics and continuous improvement to enhance sourcing and performance.

Job Summary

The Procurement Manager, Major Projects, serves as the primary Procurement partner for assigned major transmission capital projects or programs. Embedded within the project team, this senior individual contributor leads procurement integration across materials, equipment, services, construction, supplier capacity, and contracting activities to support successful project delivery. Working through influence across Procurement, Supply Chain, Engineering, Construction, and Project Controls, the role develops and oversees the integrated procurement plan, anticipates and mitigates risks, aligns procurement activities with project milestones, and provides executive-level visibility into procurement readiness and performance. While not responsible for category strategy, supplier relationship ownership, material tracking, or overall project execution, this position coordinates these capabilities into a unified procurement strategy that supports project success.

Job Description
What You'll Do
  • Serve as the primary procurement liaison and single point of coordination for assigned major projects, partnering closely with Project Managers, Project Directors, and project leadership.
  • Develop, maintain, and drive the integrated project procurement plan, ensuring alignment with engineering, construction, commissioning, and project milestones.
  • Translate project schedules and business objectives into coordinated procurement, sourcing, contracting, supplier, and material execution plans.
  • Represent project material and capacity requirements within the Transmission COE portfolio planning process and incorporate prioritization decisions into project execution plans.
  • Maintain procurement dashboards and risk registers that provide visibility into milestones, supplier capacity, material status, commercial issues, actions, decisions, and executive reporting.
  • Coordinate cross-functional execution across Transmission COE, Category Management, PPO, Sourcing, Contracts, Engineering, Project Controls, Construction, Logistics, and other stakeholders.
  • Establish clear accountability, decision paths, and escalation processes to resolve procurement issues and risks.
  • Partner with Procurement teams to address supplier performance, capacity constraints, category strategies, and commercial considerations.
  • Communicate procurement readiness, key risks, mitigation plans, and critical decisions to project leadership.
  • Leverage analytics, systems, and continuous improvement practices to enhance sourcing effectiveness, contract visibility, supplier performance, and project outcomes.
What We're Looking For
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field and 8 years of relevant experience.
  • Associate's degree in a related field and 10 years of relevant experience; or High School Diploma/GED and 12 years of relevant experience.
  • Demonstrated success leading complex cross-functional initiatives without direct authority.
  • Strong knowledge of procurement processes, contracting, supplier management, supply markets, manufacturing lead times, and delivery assurance.
  • Experience supporting large capital, utility, energy, transmission, infrastructure, industrial, or engineering projects.
  • Strong stakeholder management, collaboration, and executive communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience supporting transmission, utility, energy, EPC, or infrastructure capital projects.
  • Knowledge of project controls, critical path scheduling, commissioning, and construction sequencing.
  • Experience managing procurement risks on projects exceeding $100M in capital investment.
  • PMP, CPSM, CPSD, SCM, or similar professional certification.
  • Experience operating in matrixed and portfolio-based organizations.

Compensation Data

Compensation Grade: SP20-009 Compensation Range: $116,255.00 - $151,132.50
