Job description

POSITION SUMMARY: Peter & John Ministries (PJM) seeks a dedicated and dynamic Major Gifts Officer (MGO) to join our team. Reporting to the Director of Development, the MGO will cultivate and maintain relationships with major donors, securing significant financial contributions to support our mission and programs. This highly relational position requires empathy, strategic thinking, and persistence. It is a hybrid role, offering both remote and in-office work.

The successful candidate will join a dedicated 7-person Development Department, who has a heart for the Lord and the mission of PJM.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and nurture genuine relationships with major donors, understanding their interests, passions, and values.
  • Create and implement strategic funding proposals aligned with PJM's goals.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Development on major gift strategies for approximately 150 individuals and families.
  • Personalize solicitation and gift management strategies for each donor.
  • Acknowledge and recognize contributions with care and sensitivity.
  • Collaborate with other team members on planning and implementing events and activities for major donors/prospects.
  • Develop professional partnerships for sponsorship and giving opportunities.
Portfolio Management:
  • Utilize the donor database (Raiser’s Edge) for research, planning, preparation, and follow-up with prospects and donors.
  • Set and maintain contact and fundraising goals, reviewed and approved by the Director of Development.
  • Maintain an organized calendar of relationship-building activities.
Expectations:
  • Clearly communicate the missions and visions of BRIGHT-FM and RVR, and the various ways donors can contribute.
  • Understand the ethics and biblical basis of fundraising.
  • Spend time building genuine relationships to invite specific financial participation in PJM.

Activity Breakdown:
  • Relationship-building through research, identification, planning, personal visits, follow-up, and gift solicitation.
  • Attend PJM fundraisers and appropriate events.
  • Participate in weekly Development Team check-in meetings and regular meetings with the Relationship Management Team.
General Qualifications:
  • Agreement with the PJM Statement of Faith.
  • At least 3 years of experience in fundraising, major gifts, development/advancement, or relationship-based sales.
  • Familiarity with Blackbaud’s Raiser’s Edge or NXT, or a related contact database.
  • Excellent writing, editing, and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated empathy, genuine care, and sensitivity to donors, with the ability to pray with people meaningfully.
  • Attention to detail in relationships, communication, and record-keeping.
  • Experienced inengaging with a diverse range of constituents.
  • Ability to independently manage a donor/prospect portfolio and collaborate with a team.
  • Ability to raise principal gifts preferred.
Physical Requirements:
  • Engage in meaningful conversations for extended periods.
  • Use a computer and make phone calls for extended periods.
  • Frequently drive to meetings, appointments, or events.
  • Participate in event setup, production, and teardown.
  • Occasionally work nights or weekends, with the potential for long days and overnight travel.
Salary:Compensation for this role ranges from $80,000 - $95,000 based on skills and experience.
