PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY:

The major gift officer for JHCASE is responsible for developing and executing the major gift strategy for the College. In collaboration with the Dean, the officer will focus on achieving philanthropic goals, expanding the donor base, and raising awareness of the College’s priorities. This role serves as the primary fundraiser for JHCASE initiatives, supporting faculty, staff, and university facilities such as The Herb Innovation Center, the Center for Visual Arts, the Center for Performing Arts, and the Print and Typography Lab. The position involves regional prospect discovery and occasional travel.

SPECIFIC DUTIES:

Develop strategies for cultivating and soliciting prospects and donors. Build and manage relationships with prospective donors and university stakeholders, facilitating communication and fostering positive relationships.

Supervise and guide Assistant Director(s) of Development if assigned.

Lead gift solicitations to fund university programs and enhance development efforts.

Evaluate gift opportunities and recommend suitable giving vehicles for donors.

Participate in events and activities to cultivate donor relationships.

Collaborate with university leaders, faculty, and development staff to identify needs and potential donors.

Assist in creating tailored written communications for donors.

Prepare university administrators and volunteers for development activities.

Travel regionally and nationally as needed to engage donors and prospects.

Perform additional development activities as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred
  • At least 3 years of professional fundraising experience, including major gift cultivation, solicitation, and closure
  • Understanding of university development and donor relations
  • Experience in higher education fundraising is preferred
  • Compensation will be commensurate with experience

PERFORMANCE STANDARDS:

  • Manage a portfolio of 120+ prospective donors, focusing on major gifts
  • Meet or exceed annual goals for donor visits, solicitations, and fundraising metrics
