Key Responsibilities

Major Gift Officers have annual fundraising goals based on prospects currently in the officer’s portfolio and future prospect assignments. The fundraising goal (new gifts and pledges) will only move when funds (new gifts and pledges) are accounted for in our donor database. Performance expectations also include:

  1. Portfolio: Build and manage a portfolio of approximately 100-125 donor prospects.
  2. Relationship Building: Develop authentic relationships with donors in a focused portfolio to help them define and accomplish their philanthropic goals, aligning with Riley Children’s Foundation priorities. Conduct identification and qualification calls/visits and develop customized cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship plans.
  3. Solicitations: Solicit and close immediate gifts at the $50,000+ level, and partner on planned gifts of all levels where possible.
  4. Hospital/Volunteer partnership: Partner with an assigned hospital team, clinical area, or volunteer group to maximize fundraising and serve as the foundation point of contact.
2. Administrative
  1. Administrative: Maintain accountability to administrative systems and procedures including submitting expense reimbursements, credit card reconciliations, invoices, reports, RCF calendar additions, etc., by the deadlines assigned.
  2. Meetings: Prepare for and participate in all Riley Children’s Foundation meetings, ensuring expectations and follow-up are implemented.
  3. Budget: Collaborate with leadership to develop, manage, and monitor the budget within guidelines.
  4. Technology: Use available technology effectively.
  5. Compliance: Ensure compliance with all policies and applicable laws.
3. Riley Children’s Foundation Representative
  1. Volunteers: Collaborate with volunteer groups and board members to involve them in the mission, support their philanthropic goals, and include them in donor discussions and solicitations.
  2. Presentations: Represent the foundation through public speaking engagements about its mission.
  3. Tours: Conduct hospital and facility tours, providing information about Riley Hospital, the foundation, and associated research centers.
4. Other Duties as Assigned
  1. Foundation Events: Participate in events as requested.
  2. Perform other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience

To perform this role successfully, candidates should have:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree or CFRE preferred.
  • Experience: 5-7 years of progressive fundraising or similar client-focused experience; strong knowledge of donor/customer experience models.
  • Skills: Relationship building, communication, public speaking, written skills, donor sensitivity, problem-solving, research, organization, proficiency in Microsoft Office and experience with databases.
  • Qualities: Alignment with foundation values, results orientation, resilience under pressure, curiosity, self-motivation, professionalism, willingness to travel, and availability for occasional weekends and evenings.
