Maintenance Worker Series (Various Locations) - St. Louis District

This position is located in various locations across St. Louis City and County, St. Charles, Franklin, and Jefferson Counties. The role involves performing routine, entry-level duties related to maintaining the state's roadways and facilities under direct supervision.

MoDOT will assign candidates as entry-level, intermediate, or senior level based on skills and experience. This opening is part of our CAREER-LADDER program, offering opportunities for career advancement without a competitive interview process.

Responsibilities include:
  • Maintaining highway systems: filling joints and cracks, patching potholes, flagging traffic, setting up signs and cones, loading and hauling materials, clearing brush, removing roadside trash, and cleaning ditches.
  • Maintaining facilities: repairing signs and guardrails, cleaning, painting, and servicing equipment.
  • Operating vehicles and machinery: transporting personnel and materials, plowing snow, mowing, and operating augers, backhoes, forklifts, and trucks.
  • Potentially repairing bridges and installing signs, including structural and overhead signs, pouring concrete footings, welding, and sign maintenance.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or GED/HiSET
  • Valid Driver's License
  • Pass the written CDL exam before hire; must pass driving exam with tanker endorsement, no restrictions, and interstate status within 60 days of hire.
  • Complete work simulation and medical-physical exams.
Working Conditions:
  • Requires physical stamina and outdoor work in potentially hazardous environments, including traffic, heavy equipment, and chemicals.
  • Overtime and nighttime work may be required.
