About the Position:
The Maintenance Mechanic 2 (MM2) works independently to specifically support, maintain, repair, remodel, and construct the district facilities to include the District Headquarters, Detachment Offices, radio communications tower sites, and commercial truck scales located within District 6.

About the Division:
The Field Operations Bureau in District 6,is situated in the north central part of the state with headquarters in Wenatchee. The district provides service in Chelan, Douglas, Grant, Kittitas, and Okanogan Counties.

Detachments are located in Ellensburg, Moses Lake, Okanogan, and Wenatchee. The Commercial Vehicle Division Port-Of-Entry Facility is located on I-90 near milepost 80, west of Cle Elum.

District 6 oversees several large community events such as the Ellensburg Rodeo, Leavenworth Oktoberfest, Chief For A Day kicking off the Wenatchee Apple Blossom Festival, Omak Stampede, Gorge Concerts in George, and Winter Lighting Festival in Leavenworth. District 6 is well known for its diverse beauty, vast agriculture, mountain ranges, water systems and year round recreational opportunities such as Mission Ridge and Steven Pass Ski area, Lake Chelan, and the Apple Capital River Walk that borders the Columbia River.

  • Independently conduct inspections of all District 6 facilities to identify and prioritize maintenance needs.

  • Complete preventative maintenance of district facilities including all major working systems and sub systems including plumbing; electrical; HVAC; emergency/standby generators; irrigation; ground/storm water management systems; windows/blinds; roofing and gutter systems; building siding and painted surfaces; as well as interior areas including floors, walls, and fixtures for wear and tear related issues. Inspect and repair as needed windows, doors, and locks. Provide feedback to supervisors to establish needed repairs.

  • Develop a list of proposed improvements/remodels to existing facilities. Use results of inspections to develop and implement repairs, remodels, and improvements to existing facilities. Includes repairing and replacing tiling and carpeting; developing and implementing memorials and employee use facilities (i.e. picnic table areas and pathways); and improvements to existing facilities. Develop and implement a patching and painting schedule to maintain all painted areas/surfaces in the district area.

  • Identify and prioritize flooring areas for repair/replacement.

  • Responsible for working with program managers and facility supervisors at PMD, as well as the district facilities lieutenant to identify, prioritize, plan, and implement large scale projects determined to be beyond the scope of routine maintenance and repairs.

  • Lawn Care and Grounds Keeping: Perform basic landscaping skills including mowing the lawn, fertilizing, raking, and edging, trimming trees/bushes, weeding and facility pest control. Maintain and repair, as necessary the in-ground irrigation systems. Operate snow-removal equipment (snowplow, snow blower, and shovels) to keep the property snow and ice free.

  • Perform janitorial skills including sanitizing restrooms, vacuum and cleaning carpets, maintenance and care of ceramic tile and vinyl flooring. Use proper recycling methods.

  • Using standard office equipment and software, enter travel reports, time and activity reports, communicate by phone and email, create and/or close work orders, and maintain records. Develop job cost estimates for proposed work or improvement projects. Maintain familiarity with contract requirements for contractors and sub-contractors working at agency facilities within the district.

  • Greet and interact with visitors, employees, contractors and the public. Operate a state vehicle in a safe and prudent manner in accordance with state laws as well as agency rules and regulations. Interact with contracted vendors and sub-contractors to outline agency needs and requirements, and to resolve disputes over work performed.

  • Membership on the District Safety Committee, to include attending meetings in person or via telephone to review safety issues with physical facilities. Ensure that all work is performed safely and in accordance with all local codes.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Work Setting/ Hazards:
Primarily works in an indoor and in outdoor environment performing maintenance and/or janitorial duties. Position performs manual labor in all weather conditions, including landscaping and general maintenance.


Schedule:
Typical work week will consist of a 40-hour work week. May be called in off duty for emergencies.


Travel Requirements:
Position travels around the district in all weather conditions. Occasional statewide travel as directed.


Tools and Equipment:
The district will provide the tools and equipment as deemed necessary to perform the duties as assigned.


Required Qualifications:
  • Must possess a valid, unrestricted Washington State Driver's License. This position is required to travel around the district in all weather conditions. Occasional statewide travel as directed.
  • High School graduate or possess a GED or equivalent.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 75 lbs.
  • Must be able to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to climb a ladder to access roofs to accomplish inspections, work reviews, as well as to perform maintenance.

Conditions of Employment:
