The City of Vacaville invites applications for the position of Maintenance Worker Lead in the Field Utilities section of the Utilities Department. Currently, we have one (1) vacancy to fill. This recruitment will also establish an eligibility list to be used for any future vacancies City-wide over the next 12-month period.
Salary Range
Maintenance Worker Lead - Field Utilities: $79,814 - $97,014 /year
Additional Compensation Opportunity:
Salary Range with required certifications (5% of base pay): $83,805 - $101,865/year
Salary Range with required certifications and Class A commercial driver’s license ($2,400/year): $86,205 - $104,265/year

Lead maintenance workers in the Field Utilities section of the Utilities Department perform a variety of maintenance, repair, installation and construction work related to water distribution, wastewater collection and storm drainage systems. Additionally, incumbents exercise lead worker responsibilities over assigned staff.
The duties of a Maintenance Worker Lead - Field Utilities may include, but are not limited to the following:
This position will respond to emergency situations as required at night, on weekends and holidays and will perform mandatory standby duty, which includes the requirement to respond to emergency callouts within 30 minutes.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE
The ideal candidate will have excellent interpersonal skills in order to work in an effective manner across all City departments and with all levels of employees. The desirable knowledge, skills and abilities include, but are not limited to:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Any combination of education and experience that would provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required knowledge and abilities would be:
Education: Equivalent to high school diploma supplemented with training or college level courses related to water distribution, water quality, or wastewater systems and other related topics.
Experience: Two years experience performing duties of a Maintenance Worker II - Field Utilities in the City of Vacaville. If hired from outside, must have three years experience of construction, repair or maintenance experience related to water distribution or wastewater collection.
License or Certificates
License: Possession of a valid California Class B Driver’s License with a Tanker Endorsement and a satisfactory driving record are required as conditions of initial and continued employment. Some positions may require an unrestricted Class A Driver’s License with Tanker Endorsement. Employees are subject to random testing per DOT regulations.
Certificates: Requires a Grade II (D2) Water Distribution Operator certificate issued by the State of California State Water Resources Control Board (SWRCB) Division of Drinking Water upon hire. A Grade III (D3) Water Distribution Operators Certificate is desirable at the time of hire, and a notice of passing the SWRCB Grade III certification exam is required as a condition of passing probation. To facilitate this requirement the probationary period will be no less than twelve (12) months and no more than eighteen (18) months. D3 Certification must be maintained as a condition of continued employment.
A Grade I Collection System Maintenance Certificate from the California Water Environmental Association (CWEA) is required. A Grade II is desirable and must be obtained by the completion of probation.
A valid First Aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) certification from the American Red Cross or other certified and recognized training organization must be obtained prior to the completion of the probationary period.
The maintenance of valid licenses and certificates is a condition of continued employment. In the event the State of California requires a Haz Mat Technician or Haz Mat Endorsement to perform current functions, employees must obtain and maintain such certification.
