We offer more than 180 integrated programs across Education & Youth Development, Family Support, Job Training & Employment Support Services, Health, Housing, and Legal Services, reaching over 73,000 individuals and families, including nearly 13,000 youth. More than half of our clients are immigrants and refugees, and over 85% of our families live in poverty.

Justice Involved Supported Housing (JISH)

This program provides 30 units of scattered site supportive housing for homeless individuals with mental health or substance use challenges, many with histories of cycling through the criminal justice and shelter systems. Staff provides case management and supportive services to help clients achieve independence and financial stability, including partial utility assistance.

Position: Maintenance Worker
Reports To: Operations Supervisor
Location: 19 Winthrop Street, Brooklyn, NY 11225
What the Maintenance Worker Does:
  1. Maintain professional relationships with clients and ensure confidentiality.
  2. Follow universal precautions.
  3. Ensure vehicle maintenance according to schedule and perform daily inspections.
  4. Report inoperable or missing vehicle or equipment immediately.
  5. Complete vehicle logs for all trips.
  6. Assist passengers as needed.
  7. Keep vehicles and work areas clean.
  8. Perform cleaning and maintenance tasks in housing units and common areas.
  9. Replace light bulbs, dust furniture, and perform minor repairs as needed.
  10. Transport waste for disposal.
  11. Assist clients in maintaining a suitable living environment.
  12. Perform tasks such as polishing, washing walls, and replenishing supplies.
  13. Perform outdoor tasks like mowing and snow shoveling.
  14. Make minor plumbing and electrical repairs, and paint interiors as needed.
  15. Escort clients to appointments if required.
  16. Tasks may be modified or expanded over time.
Minimum Education/Experience:
  • Basic education and technical skills to understand instructions, perform maintenance, and document tasks.
Other Requirements:
  • Experience working with homeless or mentally ill populations, preferably in organizations with 250+ employees.
  • Good communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred.
Compensation:

Annual salary: $39,798. Salary offers depend on experience, education, and organizational factors.

Status and Benefits:

Full-time (35 hours/week). Benefits include health and dental insurance, 403(b) retirement plan with employer match, paid time off, and holidays.
