Job summary

Chatham County Facilities Maintenance is seeking a Maintenance Worker IV with vocational or technical training and at least one year of general maintenance experience. Responsibilities include maintenance and repair of buildings, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and carpentry tasks, plus on-call duties requiring travel by personal vehicle.

Candidates must lift up to 50 pounds, wear steel toe footwear, and hold a valid driver’s license. A high school diploma or GED and related training are required.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Perform routine to semi-skilled maintenance and repair work on buildings, equipment, grounds, and related facilities.
• Perform various electrical tasks: installing receptacles/switches, repairing components, replacing breakers, bulbs, and ballasts.
• Perform plumbing tasks: install/repair fixtures, clear/repair lines, fix leaks, maintain sprinkler systems.
• Maintain HVAC systems: check temperatures, clean components, lubricate parts, replace filters/belts.
• Perform general building maintenance including carpentry, doors, windows, and furniture assembly.

Job description

Chatham County Facilities Maintenance has an opening for Maintenance Worker IV. If you have vocational or technical school training and at least one (1) year of experience in general maintenance.

• Perform routine to semi-skilled maintenance and repair work on buildings, equipment, grounds, and related facilities, including carpentry, painting, mechanical, plumbing, heating and air conditioning, custodial, or other maintenance projects.
• Perform various electrical tasks such as installing electrical receptacles and switches, repairing electrical components, tripping/replacing breakers, or replacing light bulbs and ballasts.
• Perform various plumbing tasks such as installing/repairing plumbing fixtures, clearing/unstopping water lines and drains, repairing commodes, repairing plumbing leaks, and maintaining/repairing sprinkler systems.
• Perform various tasks involving maintenance of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems, check the temperature on HVAC units, maintain HVAC systems, clean fans and condenser coils, clean/replace filters, lubricate and replace bearings, and adjust and replace belts.
• Perform various tasks involving general building maintenance, carpentry, or construction projects, paint interior/exterior surfaces, install, adjust, and repair doors and hardware, replace windows, doors, and glass panes, lubricate hardware, and will assemble, repair, install or move tables, cabinets, shelving, or furniture.
• May instruct others to perform tasks.
• Must be available for on-call duty during non-working hours, holidays, and weekends and use personal transportation to respond.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

• High School Diploma or GED, and
• Vocational or technical school training, and
• At least one (1) year of experience in general maintenance; or
• Any equivalent combination of training and experience.
• Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
• Must provide and wear approved steel toe protective footwear during regular working hours.
• Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience in multiple skilled crafts.
