DEFINITIONTo perform a variety of skilled and semi-skilled tasks in the construction, installation, maintenance, and repair of County facilities, buildings, and grounds. Operate light and heavy power-driven equipment and perform related duties as required.
This position is typically assigned to the Facilities Division of the Public Works Department and may be assigned to the Mariposa County Jail Facility or the Human Services Department. If assigned to the Jail Facility, the incumbent must work with and around inmates. If assigned to the Human Services Department, the incumbent will also perform weatherization of homes of low-income persons, the elderly, and other economically disadvantaged persons.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISEDReceives general supervision from the Maintenance Supervisor – Facilities and Public Works Director; or from the Jail Facility Manager or the Sheriff/Coroner; or from assigned supervisory/management staff.
May exercise lead direction over Maintenance Workers I and II – Facilities.
EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSInspects County grounds, buildings, facilities, and related areas to determine maintenance, improvement, and repair needs.
Performs a variety of skilled and semi-skilled maintenance and construction work, including repairing walls, fences, roofs, interior carpentry, mechanical, plumbing, electrical, HVAC systems, maintaining pools, water/wastewater systems, painting, etc.
Performs reinforced concrete work for slabs, footings, and walls.
Performs groundskeeping tasks such as mowing, planting, pruning, irrigation, cleaning, and debris removal.
Sprays herbicides and pesticides as needed.
Repairs roads, parking lots, assists with snow removal.
May monitor water/wastewater treatment operations, maintain logs, collect samples, troubleshoot, and coordinate repairs.
May lead weatherization projects, assess homes, inspect work, and coordinate teams.
Operates and maintains various equipment, performs minor repairs, and maintains records.
Performs custodial duties as required.
Ensures compliance with laws, policies, and safety standards.
Provides lead direction and training to lower-level staff.
Maintains inventory supplies.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSExperience: Three years of full-time construction and grounds maintenance, with at least two years equivalent to Maintenance Worker II – Facilities in Mariposa County.
Education: High school diploma or GED; weatherization training within six months if required.
Additional Requirements: Valid California Class C driver’s license; some positions may require additional certifications or the ability to pass background checks.

Mobility for maintenance duties; ability to lift up to 50 pounds frequently and 100 pounds occasionally; manual dexterity; visual and auditory acuity; communication skills.
