Volunteers of America-Greater New York (VOA-Greater New York) is an anti-poverty organization working to end homelessness in the New York area by 2050. We operate over 60 programs across New York City, Northern New Jersey, and Westchester County, including emergency, transitional, and permanent housing. Our services extend to families experiencing homelessness, survivors of domestic violence, people living with HIV/AIDS, veterans, youth aging out of foster care, adults with behavioral health or substance use needs, and others in need, including a special education preschool program.

We are seeking new talent for the following position:

Position: Maintenance Worker III

The Maintenance Worker III is responsible for the overall maintenance of the facility and must be available for emergencies.

University Family Residence is a transitional family shelter where residents learn essential skills to meet everyday challenges. More about the program can be found here: https://www.voa-gny.org/transitional-housing.

Location: Bronx, NY 10452

Minimum Qualifications:

• High School Diploma and three years of related experience in building maintenance, including one year of supervisory experience, or a satisfactory combination of related experience and education.
• Basic computer skills.

Required Certifications:

• S-12: City Wide Sprinkler Systems / S-11 Residential Sprinkler Systems
• S-13: City Wide Standpipe Systems
• S-95: Supervision of Fire Alarm Systems and related systems
• P-98: Fuel-oil Piping and Storage Systems
• F-80: Coordinator of Fire Safety and Alarm Systems in Homeless Shelters

Principal Responsibilities:

• Recruit, train, and supervise maintenance staff.
• Prepare and implement a preventative maintenance plan covering fire safety, OSHA, and other system requirements.
• Manage work orders and track property maintenance, inventory, and purchases using a computerized system.
• Respond to emergency calls outside regular hours.
• Assist in preparing the capital budget.
• Ensure timely regulatory inspections and proper documentation.
