Job description

Maintenance Worker II - Water Distribution

The City of Norfolk's Department of Utilities is seeking qualified candidates for a Maintenance Worker II position in our Water Distribution Division. The role involves performing general labor duties such as maintaining equipment, fueling, unloading materials, and digging.

Essential Functions Include, But Are Not Limited To

• Digs and refills trenches and other excavations
• Cuts asphalt and concrete
• Maintains lawns
• Loads, unloads, lifts, and carries tools, equipment, and chemicals
• Makes minor repairs to underground water service lines
• Requires knowledge of construction equipment, materials, and work tasks

Work requires the ability to read and understand written instructions, comprehend simple processes, and operate machines routinely. A high school diploma or equivalent is required. One year of experience as a Maintenance Worker is preferred.

Valid Driver's License required.

Work Location: 1316 Ballentine Blvd., Norfolk, VA 23504

Work Hours: Monday - Friday, 7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m., with standby duty rotation every few weeks.

This position is eligible for a one-time $5,000 signing bonus.

This is an 'Essential' position, requiring work during nights, weekends, holidays, and in response to severe weather events and emergencies.
