Job description

Semi-skilled manual labor in connection with general maintenance and upkeep of parks and park facilities. Incumbent will perform a variety of maintenance work and light construction tasks, as well as assist the public and ensure public safety at county parks. Incumbent will be responsible for the daily operation of the Anderson Snow splash park. Must be able to work a flexible schedule that will include weekends and holidays. The principal location and schedule that is assigned to this position has the potential to change due to operational needs of the department.The following statements describe the principal functions of this job and its scope of responsibility but shall not be considered an all-inclusive listing of work requirements. Individuals may perform other duties as assigned, including working in other functional areas to cover absences or relief, to equalize peak work periods, or otherwise to balance the workload.

  • Weekend overtime may be required as well as rotation on-call.
  • Weekend, holiday, and shift work required
  • Provides excellent customer service with the ability to communicate effectively
  • Regular attendance required.
  • Cleans and restocks restrooms multiple times daily.
  • Maintains appearance of the park (i.e., removal of trash and debris), including parking lot, beach, boat ramp, showers, picnic area, playground area, volleyball courts, sports fields… etc.
  • General Maintenance of the Splash Park Facility to include monitoring of the filtration systems, cleaning of restrooms, and removal of trash.
  • Maintains grounds (rakes, weeds, picks up trash and disposes of same).
  • Performs custodial duties within parks.
  • Performs basic repairs on park fixtures and facilities.
  • Repairs and maintains playground equipment.
  • Repair a variety of fences.
  • Mows, trims, edges sods and waters grounds.
  • Performs field maintenance using small equipment.
  • Performs painting tasks on park amenities and buildings.
  • Trims and removes trees.
  • Performs minor construction and maintenance on athletic fields and courts.
  • Operates most equipment associated with lawn/turf maintenance.
  • Transports equipment used in daily activities from site to site.
  • Performs custodial duties and maintenance within parks.
  • May be assigned to parks other than the splash pad to assist with general maintenance during off slower months.
  • Raises and lowers flag each day.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
Emergency Response: County employees are required to report for work during a state of emergency and are subject to recall around the clock for emergency response operations which may include duties other than those specified in this job description.Minimum Qualifications
  • Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma (GED).
  • Experience: One (1) to two (2) years of experience in performing manual labor.
  • Skills:Math, computer, spreadsheets, data entry. Experience with Google Earth Maps and/or GIS maps, preferred.

Licenses, Certifications, or Registrations
  • Valid Florida driver’s license and be insurable by current insurance carrier.
  • This position is subject to the Hepatitis B Vaccine when necessary.
  • Certified Pool Operator certification required within 90 days
  • ICS 100, 200, & 700 required within 90 days

A combination of education, training and experience may be substituted at the County's discretion.

Physical Demands
  • Acceptable eyesight (with or without corrective lenses), walking, balancing, climbing, crawling, crouching, handling, lifting, repetitive motion, speaking, visual acuity, standing, kneeling, bending, stooping, driving, equipment operation, eye, hand and foot coordination.
  • Work is heavy work exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.

Environmental Conditions
Works outdoors in various weather conditions with potential exposure to dust, dirt, noise, heavy rains and wind, and vibration.

Equipment Used
All tools of the building trade.
