The City of Sanford, NC, is seeking applicants for a Maintenance Worker I position within the Public Works department. This role requires knowledge of traffic services and the ability to set up traffic control to ensure safety for work zones, events, and emergencies.
You will also assist with street drainage and landscaping-related tasks. A NC Class B or Class A CDL is required or available training, and the City conducts a background check consistent with business necessity.

General knowledge of traffic services and the ability to set up traffic control to ensure safety of work zone, special event, and emergency situations, street drainage, landscape areas and related construction, maintenance and repair procedures, and knowledge of the safe use, operation and preventive maintenance of the equipment to which assigned; ability to understand and follow specific oral instructions, to perform manual labor for extended periods, often under unfavorable weather conditions, and to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates and the general public.
Position requires a NC Class B or Class A CDL. Candidates who do not possess a Class B or Class A CDL are encouraged to apply and will be given the opportunity to obtain the CDL within a specific time limit set by the City of Sanford according to FMCSA requirements. Non CDL holders will be hired as a Maintenance Worker I and compensated at a salary that is commensurate with the license.
