Job summary

The City of Topeka is seeking a maintenance-oriented candidate to perform preventive maintenance on parking structures, landscape duties, and meter upkeep. You will also learn the Pay-On-Foot cash handling procedures and Scan Net gate system.

Ideal candidates have a high school diploma or GED, a valid Kansas driver’s license, and at least one year of related maintenance experience. Entry rate aligns with city pay scales and benefits are provided.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Must possess and maintain a valid Kansas driver’s license and city insurable driving record.
• One year experience in building maintenance, construction, or grounds maintenance is required.

Responsibilities

• Perform preventive maintenance and repairs on parking garages including gates, ticket machines, card readers, and overhead operator equipment.
• Perform outside landscaping including mowing, trimming, trash and debris removal.
• Perform parking meter maintenance including installation, removal, painting and repairs.
• Learn bi-monthly Pay-On-Foot cash handling procedures and the Scan Net gate system.

Job description

What will you do:

• Perform preventive maintenance and repairs on parking garages to include gates, ticket machines, card readers and overhead operator equipment.
• Perform outside landscaping which includes mowing, trimming, trash and debris removal.
• Perform parking meter maintenance to include installation, removal, painting and repairs.
• Will learn the BI-monthly, Pay-On-Foot station cash handling procedures as well as the Scan Net computerized gate system.

The ideal candidate possesses any combination of the following traits:

• A basic knowledge of mechanics and/or plumbing hand tools.
• Has knowledge of standard safety practices.
• Thrives in a mobile work environment.

Minimum Qualifications:

• High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
• Must possess and maintain a valid Kansas driver’s license and city insurable driving record. Please review the insurability guidelines here.
• One (1) year experience in building maintenance, construction, or grounds maintenance is required.

Entry rate of pay - $17.17 - $17.94 per hour DOQ.
