General Description

This position performs general repair and maintenance of assigned City parks and/or grounds. Works under general supervision according to procedures/processes. In some cases, may determine how to complete tasks.

This position is non-exempt. Fair Labor Standards Act overtime provisions will apply.

Per Florida Statute 295.065, certain servicemembers and veterans, and their spouses and family members, receive preference and priority, and some may be eligible for educational waivers. They are encouraged to apply.

Primary Duties
  • Performs duties related to enhancement, cleaning, repair, and maintenance of assigned areas.
  • Conducts preventive maintenance, responds to repair work orders, and maintains records.
  • May assist or perform skilled work such as carpentry, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, electronics, painting, masonry, concrete, paving, and welding.
  • Drives vehicles, operates heavy equipment, and uses small power tools as assigned.
  • Performs groundskeeping, clean-up after weather events, custodial work, event setup, facility locking/unlocking, light bulb changes, street sweeping, signage, traffic management, and trash disposal.
  • Transports materials and equipment, makes deliveries, and runs errands.
  • Uses equipment safely, follows safety practices, and is aware of hazards.
  • Completes work in accordance with policies and standards, and provides customer service.
  • Maintains records and reports, and may perform clerical tasks.
  • Attends training and meetings; may be on-call after probation.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Two years of related experience or equivalent training/education.
  • Valid Florida Driver’s License; may require Class B Commercial License.
  • Obtain Maintenance of Traffic Certification and FEMA IS100 and IS700 within specified timeframes.

Higher education and experience may be considered if relevant.

Physical & Environmental Conditions

Light to heavy physical work; frequent lifting up to 50 pounds, occasional up to 80 pounds; frequent walking, standing, climbing, reaching, and bending; good dexterity, eyesight, hearing, speech; regular driving; PPE use; outdoor work in various weather conditions with potential hazards.
