Performing intermediate manual and basic semiskilled work in the construction, maintenance, and repair of public facilities, buildings, grounds, streets, utilities, and related facilities. Work is performed under the immediate supervision of the assigned Crew Supervisor.
Some knowledge of streets drainage, buildings, grounds, utilities, landscape areas, and related construction, maintenance, and repair procedures. Some knowledge of the safe use, operation, and preventive maintenance of the assigned equipment. Skill in using the equipment. Ability to understand and follow oral instructions. Ability to perform manual labor for extended periods, often under unfavorable weather conditions. Ability to read and write. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
Less than high school education and minimal experience in construction, maintenance, custodial, or grounds-keeping work, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Possession of a valid driver's license in North Carolina. Ability to obtain a Class A commercial driver's license valid in North Carolina.
This work requires occasional exertion of up to 100 pounds of force. Regularly involves standing, walking, using hands, reaching, pushing, pulling, lifting, speaking, hearing, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and repetitive motions. Requires depth and color perception. Vocal communication for expressing ideas, hearing for perceiving information, visual inspection, operating machinery and vehicles, and observing surroundings. Exposure to outdoor weather, wet conditions, mechanical parts, fumes, chemicals, extreme temperatures, electrical shock, vibration, and bloodborne pathogens. Use of personal protective equipment may be required.
