Job summary

City of Cocoa Beach is seeking a part-time Grounds Maintenance Aide to assist in mowing, trimming, edging, and routine landscaping of city grounds and beachside parks. The position runs Monday through Friday from 6:30 AM to 11:30 AM, with occasional events and holidays.

Responsibilities include herbicide/pesticide application and operating lawn equipment, with EMT-style emergency duties possible. A valid Florida driver’s license is required, and prior grounds maintenance experience is preferred.

Qualifications

• Graduation from high school.
• 1–2 years of experience in ground maintenance or related work.

Responsibilities

• Performs general landscape maintenance duties: mowing, trimming, edging, spraying herbicides and pesticides, spreading grass seed and fertilizer.
• Polices areas to remove debris and litter; prepares and maintains grounds; performs grading and general landscaping on City property.
• Must deal with city staff and the public in a positive and professional manner.
• May be required to work during emergencies or special events; may work holidays if required.

GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOBUnder direct supervision, performs semi-skilled and unskilled work to assist in the maintenance and cleaning of City grounds and equipment. Work involves the maintenance and landscaping of City grounds; application of herbicides and insecticides as needed. Work also includes assisting with the clearing of land for designated areas and sidewalks, setting up and assisting with special events, and trash removal in assigned areas. More specifically, ensures that street ends, beachside parks, and street end trash cans are attended to. Reports to the Grounds Maintenance Supervisor.This is a Monday through Friday work week from 6:30 AM to 11:30 AM.
