Job summary

City of Santa Fe Springs is seeking a Maintenance Worker to perform a broad range of duties across parks, streets, water and sewer systems, and City facilities. The role involves operating equipment, maintaining grounds, and supporting special events.

The position requires a high school diploma or GED and about three years of related experience or training, with strong attention to safety and adaptability to field work.

Responsibilities

• Performs maintenance and upkeep of parks, buildings, and recreational facilities.
• Performs street repair and maintenance including finishing concrete, laying asphalt, and patching streets.
• Operates water meters reading device and tests/disinfects water lines and meters.
• Installs water lines, hydrants, and repairs leaks; flushes hydrants and maintains equipment.
• Cleans and maintains city facilities, parks, restrooms and grounds; handles trash and sidewalk sweeping.
• Maintains playground equipment, grounds, and performs general landscaping and event setup.

Description

Under general supervision, performs a variety of maintenance and labor duties associated with the maintenance of buildings, parks, grounds, streets, water utilities work in water line construction and maintenance or sewer line repair, cleaning and maintenance, and other City-owned areas; operates a variety of equipment as assigned. Based on the duties and responsibilities outlined in this job description, this position is considered safety sensitive.

Examples of Duties

• Performs work in the general cleaning, maintenance and upkeep of parks, grounds, buildings, and recreational facilities; may be assigned to direct seasonal workers in absence of supervisor.
• Performs general street repair and maintenance duties to include: finishing concrete and setting forms, laying asphalt, assisting patch truck operator when necessary to patch and repair streets, removing brush and limbs from catch basins, and directing traffic around construction or repair site;.
• Utilizes hand held meter reading device for reading water meters;.
• Installs water lines, disinfects new lines, and repairs leaks; tests and repairs water meters and taps.
• Installs fire hydrants and valves; flushes water hydrants and performs repairs and maintenance.
• Performs maintenance and preparation tasks including: cleaning park grounds and athletic facilities.
• Empties trash containers, sweeps parking lots and exterior walk-ways.
• Performs various duties in landscaping; plants, cuts, trims, rakes, digs, edges, and weeds.
• Prepares park facilities for special events; sets up chairs, tables, booths, stages, and tents.
• Provides janitorial and refuse services in City facilities including parks, restrooms and recreational facilities.
• Performs ground maintenance at the golf course to include: mowing, cleaning, tearing down, and rebuilding of equipment, watering greens, pouring and finishing concrete and performing preventative maintenance on equipment.
• Performs work in constructing, painting, repairing, or other duties associated with building maintenance, including plumbing, electrical, and concrete finishing.
• Maintains power tools and equipment; may perform routine maintenance.
• Removes snow from City grounds and streets, removes trees damaged by storms, and participates in other activities as a result of storms and natural events.
• Inspects and repairs playground equipment; installs new equipment.
• Tests chlorinate lines.
• Assists in pouring and finishing concrete.
• Hauls concrete, asphalt, dirt, and gravel to and from job site.
• Completes service orders for service turn on and off.
• Spreads dirt, lays sod, and rakes yards.
• Cleans sewer lines with the use of high pressure equipment.
• Cuts brush and mows right of ways.
• Cleans and disinfects areas of over flow with hydrogen peroxide.
• Performs pipe grout work; mixes grout to proper set time; operates and maintains highly-specialized equipment.
• Perform any other related duties as required or assigned.
